New Laptop

I just bought my first new laptop my previous was used and I installed
my own copy of windows 2000 and dual booted with Fedora. The new one is
a Lenovo t400 base model with DVD rw and bluetooth. It doesn't have
video switching. It does have Lenovo's flavor of Vista business
installed. I am now in the process of shrinking the windows partition so
I can install Fedora. I found it very frustrating trying to prepare the
windows partition so that it would be defragged and compact. When I
removed software the actual disk usage went up. When I made the system
restore disks the disk usage went up. I suspect this is mostly due to
Lenovo's default setup.
I find the user management the most difficult due to the fact that the
administrator user is now the first user and there are still
administrative functions that are limited to the user/administrator.
Is there a way to turn the full user management facilities back on? This
may be moot in a few hours but I would like to know if others have dealt
with this successfully.

Vista is not very good, but it does have its own resizing software.
There are a couple of ways you could do things. One is to install
Virtualbox (or another virtualization method) and install fedora as a
guest OS, or you could install fedora native and install Vista or
Windows XP as a guest OS.

Jerry,
I used gparted live to resize and am now useing F10-64 on it now as I
type while ssh'd into my server. I gave vista 50G and it still boots. I
am consulting the thinkwiki to get the various devices configured, like
tap to select and scroll, all well documented so should not be a problem.

BTW, Ubuntu LiveCD has Gparted on it, so if you have Ubuntu, you have
Gparted already.

Yes, but it might not be as good a gparted as the one from gparted.
When I installed the linux partition on my new desktop, the gparted on
the Ubuntu install disk couldn't deal with the Vista partition (it
kept saying, "The enclosing drive for the volume is locked"), but the
CD I burned from the gparted site had no problems.
