New developer Nigel VickersI think most of you already know Nigel (one of the managers from
Stylite) from the developer meeting, he organized last year. He's quite active in debugging and fixing problem in SyncML and FMail. So far I always reviewed and commited his patches. I think it's time he becomes a "junior" ;-) developer with me as mentor. I will add him at the end of this week, if noone objects. I hoped, that you would not ask this question, as i'm pretty sure that you know why I don't like to work together with Nigel any more. I don't think that the other people on this list will benefit from a discussion about things they can not validate. In the last summer we(Cornelius, Nigel, you and me) had a meeting at Stylite. It was my real intention to find a way, how we can extend eTemplate to work with a JavaScript frontend and how we can improve the eGroupWare core to work better with JavaScript/AJAX frameworks. The meeting was scheduled for 2 days. After 1,5 days I did left the meeting very angry, because Nigel did not stop bashing at me. 1,5 days Nigel told me that I'm a very bad boy and that every idea I have to improve eGroupWare is totally wrong and can not be implemented. I'm very surprised that you don't remember this meeting any more. I don't see any way, how I can work together with Nigel. eGroupWare is a team and Nigel is not a team player. He is not able to accept, that other people might have a different opinion. -- Lars Kneschke CTO OfficeSpot.Net Metaways Infosystems GmbH Pickhuben 2-4, D-20457 Hamburg eGroupWare Support: http://www.egroupware-support.net OfficeSpot.Net Collaboration Server: http://cs.officespot.net E-Mail: mailto:l.kneschke@... I know you dislike Nigel, but that was not my question: neither the first one about making him a project member, nor the second one when I asked you to state reasons to not make him a project member. > In the last summer we(Cornelius, Nigel, you and me) had a meeting at > Stylite. Describing is as constant bashing at you is - in my opinion - not correct: as it implies intention to hurt you. Which I'm absolutely sure Nigel never had. It's correct that he, as well as you, insisted strongly on his point of view, and we did not come to a compromise. That's sad, but blaming it only on one side, is not correct either and tells more about you then the situation itself. > I'm very surprised that you don't remember this meeting any more. Of cause I remember ... > I don't see any way, how I can work together with Nigel. To put that straight, you left the current eGroupWare code base and now want to object against people trying to help maintaining and improving it? At least for me, that's not acceptable. > eGroupWare is a team and Nigel is not a team player. He is not able to > accept, that other people might have a different opinion. As I said before, it was not only Nigel insisting on his point of view. Anyway for the record, I noticed your opinion. That alone is no reason, not to include Nigel into the project. Re: New developer Nigel VickersAs there have been no further objections, I added Nigel to the list of
project members and assigned him commit rights for our svn repository. Hi Nigel, welcome on board the eGroupWare project :-) Please create a developer checkout (see www.egroupware.org/wiki/subversion) and negotiate all your commits 'til you become a full senior developer with Me or Klaus. Re: New developer Nigel VickersHi Conny,
sorry, miss your point (beside the accusations with the bucks ...) Nigel has send about a dozen patches in the area of FMail, egw-pear and SyncML. These patches have been reviewed and commited by Klaus or me, that is the first stage in our NewMembers document you linked. Now Klaus and I think he's ready to get commit rights (next stage in the official process) and to be added as project member. That the procedure I followed since that rules have been drafted. Review this list and the commit logs, and you will see the announcement on the core list always happens at that stage and the new devels got commit rights with the condition to negotiate all commit with their mentors beforehand. And before the next accusation comes: making a Nigel a developer is a reaction on your announcements, please look at the dates (it's well before you/metaways send the announcement). And for the record, I received no money from anyone before asking on this list to make him a developer. What I received from Nigel was a bunch of patched, who helped the community alot to cope with the problems of the dropped support for FMail and SyncML by it's developer. Re: New developer Nigel VickersHi Ralf,
you requested to add Nigel as junior member. According to our rules, junior members have no access to svn. If you had requested to add nigel as medior member, i would have objected also. My intend is not to flame on the lists. This was the reason i keeped quied an thought: well, with him as junior member i have no problem, we can defer the discusson of adding him as medior or full member, as air in this project is hot enough atm. I'm realy disappointed, that you make missleading and wrong accusations about me on the list! I have not left the project! I'm active part of it! I spend so much hours in coding, the new website, the wiki, the fourms the list-bridges and so on. Also in the relativly short time i'm activly contributing code, i allready hold 5% of the codebase. And right now i want to help in makeing eGroupWare more usable und more stable. And again, it cost me very much. I do a lot of coding for egw in my spare time! After all we reached togehter in the project, i'm extreamly disappointed, that you treat me now as an outsider and that you don't care about my opinion on Nigel. You know exactly that i'm waiting for an apology from him and that i made this to an precondition for working with him again. If you remeber the thing we had in the beginning of this year. Please check the archives and see that i allways defended you and our your position even thogh i was not of your opinion and internally i sometimes thought that the accuations you got where right. But I understand it as a part of being community that we stand together even if we are not of the same opinion. Re: New developer Nigel VickersHi Conny,
I wrote: > I think it's time he becomes a "junior" ;-) developer with me as mentor. Calling Nigel a "junior developer" was a joke on his age, and not a try to actively misleading you. It is the common practice, that the announcement / question on the core lists happens, when developers become a "Medior member" and get commit rights. And also for the record, I do not share the opinion eg. Lutz gave on the lists, that Lars and you are no active members of the project anymore, and therefore should have no votes. What I wrote was an answer to Lars: > To put that straight, you left the current eGroupWare code base and > now want to object against people trying to help maintaining and > improving it? I still value your and Lars contribution to the eGroupWare codebase and specially your non-code contributions as website, wiki and forum. I have a problem with the dogmatic approach of eGroupware20, as it calls the whole project to a waiting stage, 'til it's ready for a vote. But all this is beside the point of this thread, which is about making Nigel a "Medior member" of the eGroupWare project. I can not see he's dealt with any different from all other developers I added to the project before, beside of cause of Lars objection. If you want to call for a vote about the decision to make Nigel a Medior member, I will second you (so you dont need to get the required 20% of the members to second your request to vote), as I'm sure I dealed with this case the same way I did as with all similar requests in the last years. Ralf Cornelius Weiss schrieb: > Hi Ralf, > > you requested to add Nigel as junior member. According to our rules, > junior members have no access to svn.
