I hope it is ok to ask questions here. I'm not a really all that proficient in Linux, so sorry if this is a dumb question. I've looked over the manual and known problems, but didn't find anything relevant.

I am using Emacs 23.3.1 with ghost script 9.04 on Ubuntu 12.04

The problem is I get nothing but red signs when trying to generate previews. The error messages are incomprehensible to me. Here is one from an attempt to render a simple $A$  at a point:

gs -dOutputFile\=\(_region_.prv/tmp6465dBV/pr1-1.png\) -q -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE -DNOPLATFONTS -dPrinted -dTextAlphaBits\=4 -dGraphicsAlphaBits\=4 -sDEVICE\=png16m -r94.2656x94.3773

Using all my powers of logical deductive inference I presume the "gs" at the beginning of the error message indicates the problem has to something to do with ghostscript, but I'm not sure of what the rest means. I could pour through the ghostscipt docs but I was hoping perhaps I could get a helpful hint here to focus my efforts. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated :)
