Hi everyone,

I have been interested in Pandorabot for some time and have finally come up with a project that I have been working through for a while.

I am a disabled vet and I have many of my veteran buddys at the VA that I have been toying with the idea of creating a website that can be used by disabled veterans (and of course others with like disabilities). Two sections of the site I was wanting to setup voice recognition to integrate with a pandorabot that would have a knowledgebase of the VA system and veterans could speak their queries and the bots voice would provide the information to them. Another area of the site I am planning for kids with like disabilities but would be an area where they could come have some fun with a fun pandorabot. Is this voice recognition feasible to do? I have Dragon Naturally Speaking Professional but have been trying to figure out how to integrate with the pandorabot. Any advice or direction I can get would be very much appreciated.

This is going to be a long project but a hobby of mine to pass the time and feel that this will give me more experience working in the web world. I am also looking into the W3C standards needed to provide a site that observes as many features for the disabled that I can come up with so if anyone has any other ideas that would also be very much appreciated.

Just thought this would be a good way for me to give back to the community and those who have served.

Thanks,

SSGT Jerry G

Hi,
I am doing a PhD researching the use of AI and the acceptance of AI by clinicians and the public.
Youtr 'hobby' sounds really interesting and is the sort of thing i am interested in.

My own Alice is simply a demonstration model, and have had voice recognition through MS Windows working which is relatively easy, but the issue is it is definitely not as accurate as D&D.

I am also an ICT person so I will investigate but I dont think it would be hard simply right click on the properties of the Flash player and add the microphone.
The one thing I did find when discussing things with my AI is that it also picked up its own voice on the microphone and this create a bit of reiteration if you know what i mean.

Would you mind keeping in touch with me as to how you go. Again I am researching the 'human interaction' side of things and am not  trying to compete or copy so you do not have to worry about IP.

FYI  as a follow up.

Semantic technology takes off

KurzweilAI.net, June 18, 2009

Key news at the Semantic Technology Conference in San Jose:

·  Wolfram Alpha rep Russel Foltz Smith said they will offer an API to their engine that will allow companies with natural-language front ends to call their engine and get rich data from across the web.

·  Ask.com announced they are crawling the web gathering Q&A pairs and parsing them for quality, and now have 300 million specific questions and answers available on line, in a beta feature.

·  Microsoft's Bing search engine inspired the crowd with its combination of a new interface, extracts from Powerset's web indexing, and the Powerset access to Wikipedia. Rumors at the conference: Bing has grown by 25% in a few months; the image and video search features imported from live.com's web site are popular.

·  The number of companies offering ontological creation and search tools, the presence of VCs and publishers, and the 1,275 attendees suggests that the semantic web movement is taking off in spite of the downturn in the economy.
