Nord G2 controlling filters and fx in ableton

Hey peoples. First post to the G2 list.

My partner and I have been using the G2 as a dedicated processor for our (ableton) live sets. We run 2 live outputs from Ableton, Midi-synced with a G2 step sequencer / adsr's / + filters as a beat-chopping filterbox/processor... it is a patch that we converted from the Doepfer modular environment last year in order to preserve gear and sanity at the club nights we perform at.

The patch fits in one slot comfortably and is running wonderfully for us.
We would now like to add some additional standard midi controllers / switches into some of the other (unused) slots on the G2.

We would like to use the rotary encoders for data and the switches below them as toggles for their respective effects (all running on the master channel), but we aren't quite sure what types of controllers are the best for this specific purpose. Is there a preferred (midi notes vs cc's vs sliders) method of using the G2 as a labelled midi control surface for FX parameters, that doesnt push too much data through the midistream?

I find when we run the G2 modwheel (to control beat repeat lengths for example) that there is just SO much infomation.

Perhaps a standard note-value controller would be more appropriate as continuous cc data also tends to grab whatever is selected in the ableton automap, a true pain in the *ss when you are trying to change little things without wanting to unpatch that contunous data from the G2 in order to assign notes to paramaters... we think note controls would be so much easier here.

Anyways, Im assuming someone has already wrote a labeled standard midi controller for the G2 that I might be able to just fire into a second slot, but I didn't see it i the patch archives. Or maybe someone else is running something similar?

Thanks in advance for any responses, and excuse my lack of ignorance on something this basic.

Rob.
