Folks,

I would like to replace current desktop with Ubuntu  by notebook with Ubuntu.

I found 3 kinds of suitable for computers
-----the first----
Sony NS series(220 0r 240)
Sony CS series((2153, 220)
----the second---
Acer Aspiro 3810
----the third-----
Toshiba Satelite (A505, E105)

According to friend experiance : He does not have problen with Sony note book

What about Toshiba and Acer labels?
Does anybody try to use this model under Ubuntu, or other kind of Linux like opertaion system

Sony is more expencive from my point of view. Main purpose of using of this laptop is software development.

I use the Acer Aspire 7520.  Works like a charm and was <$800.  Like
you, this is a primary working machine.  I also liked the fact it had an
additional internal hdd bay.  Though the atheros wireless card worked
fine I replaced it with a broadcom card and noticed better performance
with the wireless.

Happy Shopping.

I have Acer Aspire 4736 (Available in my country, don't know about other
countries) and each and every piece of hard-wares are detected by both
Fedora 11 and Ubuntu 9.04.

Except WLAN (I don't have access to it) everything is working fine.
I would say Acer laptops have much more compatibility with Linux.

Ask the vendors. Write to Sony, Acer, and Toshiba and see what they say.

If we do not express interest in Linux support from the vendors, how
can we expect them to provide that support? They cannot read our
minds. Let them know that there is a market for Linux support. You may
be happily surprised by their responses.

I have a Presario CQ50 laptop from HP which was very cheap and I have
both 8.11 and 9.04 Ubuntu running nice. This laptop has 2 GB RAM which
helps. I am in the USA.

I bought ASUS u81. Two minutes ago I completed  Ubuntu installtion. Seems to me everithing is OK. simple test passed.
In shop I discuss possibility to get money instead of OEM Windows Vista. To my regret shop cannot to do this without difficult formal procedure.

I observe two minor problem, but i describe it in separate messages

Thank

alex

So do the difficult formal procedure. Not just for the money, but also
to show interest in having non-MS taxed hardware. Stop being a sheep!
