O'Reilly Announces Velocity ConferenceHi all,
O'Reilly has just announced that they'll be running a conference next summer on operations: http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/oreilly/radar/atom/~3/185555323/ oreilly_launche_1.html This year's program committee includes: Artur Bergman (O'Reilly Radar & Wikia), Cal Henderson (Flickr & author of 'Building Scalable Web Sites'), Jon Jenkins (Amazon.com), and Eric Schurman (Live.com Search). We're ready to create this incredible conference, and invite your proposals to lead conference sessions. We are especially interested in the following topics: * Scaling experiences: What works, what doesn't, and how to tell the difference * CDNs - Getting content closer to the customer * Networking, DNS, and load balancing * Managing web services and SOAs * Making RIAs that are fast! * Maximizing database performance and efficiency * Optimizing production for customer experience * Capacity planning and load testing * Configuration management & Software Deployment * Infrastructure management, Monitoring, and Instrumentation * Incident Management and Business Continuity Planning * Virtualization in Production: Challenges & Opportunities * Policy / Process / Compliance in distributed environments Looks like it's pretty web-site focused, but it should be interesting for others, too. -- To have a right to do a thing is not at all the same as to be right in doing it. -- G. This does look kind of interesting. At other ORA conferences, their maker demos have been kind of fun. Perhaps we should propose something similar: a demo evening where people show their tools at work, presumably with a farm of servers supplied on demand by amazon or similar. -- ----------------------- Hewlett-Packard Limited Registered Office: Cain Road, Bracknell, Berks RG12 1HN Registered No: 690597 England _______________________________________________ Config-mgmt mailing list Config-mgmt@... http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/config-mgmt |

Hmm, that would be really cool, and it'd be something that both ORA and Amazon could really get behind. I'm sure Amazon would love to see someone build a couple hundred EC2 images. I'll be at the Summit for the conference in January, and I assume the Summit will involve planning for things like this. I've pinged the organizers with the idea; thanks. -- Hanlon's razor: Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke Kanies | http://reductivelabs.com | http://madstop.com _______________________________________________ Config-mgmt mailing list Config-mgmt@... http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/config-mgmt |
