I found the same advice on codebrainz.ca where mapnik installation
advice is posted.  A comment of mine there awaits moderation.  I suspect
the postgresql I now experience may be connected somehow.  Is osm2pgsql
now supposed to use the -m or not?

That's where I got that advice. I'm walking through that same tutorial
now.

click on the "Mapnik" instructions which leads you to Ross's tutorial +
some more tips.


I think the -m flag depends on what version of things you use. Modern
versions use the crappy Google Mercator-on-a-sphere projection AFAIK.
