Hello,

You may find the first page of the pdf file identified
below to provide a useful test case for improving the
accuracy of GNU Ocrad version 0.15. Ocrad made the
following errors reading this page (after conversion
to pnm):

correct         substituted     number of
letter(s)       symbol(s)       instances
---------       -----------     ---------
g               &               29
c               G               3
M               W               1
r               y               3
L               _               1
ffi             R*              1

I invoked Ocrad without specifying any options, after
converting the pdf file to pnm as follows:
gs -sPAPERSIZE=a4 -sDEVICE=pnmraw -r600 -dNOPAUSE
-dBATCH -sOutputFile=<filnam>.pnm -dLastPage=1 -q
<filnam>.pdf

The pdf file is a preprint entitled "Optimality
conditions and duality theory for minimizing sums of
the largest eigenvalues of symmetric matrices" by M.
L. Overton and R. S. Womersley, which can be
downloaded from
http://citeseer.ist.psu.edu/cache/papers/cs/14934/ftp:zSzzSzcs.nyu.eduzSzpubzSztech-reportszSz.zSztr566.pdf/overton93optimality.pdf

This is an interesting test case, thanks. The lower "hole" of the 'g' is
unusually wide. This is most probably why Ocrad misrecognizes it as '&'.
I'll fix it for version 0.16.

Antonio Diaz.
