Odd perl error when attempting to send x10 commands

Using a TI103 on /dev/ttyS0, Debian lenny, fresh install.  Mh *did* work
for a while (about 24 hours), and now, for a yet-undetermined reason
refuses to control my x10 devices.

test_x10 gives me:
