One Time Push From Device To Evolution (...and something else)
Hi folks,
Like a lot of people (I guess!) I'm trying to migrate from XP to Linux. I'm pretty experienced in the XP world but still really, really new to the Linux world. In my case I have Debian and have been able to get SynCE more or less working for me from the instructions on the site. Thank you to all those people who have contributed to this project. Awesome. libsynce0 0.11.1-1 odccm 0.11.1-4 opensync-plugin-synce 0.11.1-2 synce-sync-engine 0.11.1-2 (Synaptic installer used) Question 1: I have tried moving my contacts and calendar into Evolution (Evolution 2.22.3.1) a couple of different ways (.csv, .tsv, Mozilla etc) without fantastic success - fields get omitted etc. Hoping that I would have better luck with a synchronization I got SynCE working. When I synchronized my Windows Mobile 6.1 Palm Pro the first time, SynCE deleted the vast majority of contact/calendar information in my Palm and replaced it with a handful of items from Evolution. Not what I was hoping for! (I was able to recover my data by resyncing with XP) So, question one is 'How do I do a one-way push from my Palm to Evolution?'. I'm hoping that SynCE does a better job of getting info into Evolution than any of the other migratory techniques I've tried. After this one-time push, SynCE would then syncronize as per normal. Question 2: When I plug my Palm into the USB port, Debian drops the wired or wireless connection I'm using and I think expects to find connectivity through my Palm. I think this is another side of the problem I'm having in that my wireless connection drops when my wired connection is plugged in, but I'm not sure so I thought I'd ask anyhow. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, I appreciate the help! Take care,

I'm assuming this is what you did, if I'm wrong about anything, or you did anything else, then correct me. 1) you had a single partnership on the device with the XP box, which was synced and up to date. 2) You created a partnership and sync group for synce without touching the partnership for XP, then synced with synce which caused stuff to be removed 3) You then resynced with XP to get it all back Also send the output of msynctool --showgroup <sync group name> synce-list-partnerships > Question 2: > When I plug my Palm into the USB port, Debian drops the wired or > wireless connection I'm using and I think expects to find connectivity > through my Palm. This should be getting fixed in later versions, but for now add the following line to /etc/network/interfaces iface rndis0 inet dhcp If the interface used by the device is not called rndis0, replace that with the correct name. Make sure there is no "auto" line for that interface.
