Open Logo Work.I was wondering if it would be ok for me to post posters etc to get students
here at the university to try some work on the Ooo Logo. I am the person responsible for online design for a student organization called the OVC (Organization of Visual Communicators). You can check our website at: http://www.theovc.org There are 922 students in the fine arts program at my school and 300-400 are Visual Design majors. I have been on this list for almost a year or so now, but havent done much work because of school. I see that people are working on a new logo and the designs are interesting, but I think seeing Graphic Design students work would really impress you. I started reading the Wiki.. When is the logo due? Where can I find a design brief? Does this sound like a good idea? -Dennis |

It's great to get students involved in OOo - thanks for your commitment! > [...] > I have been on this list for almost a year or so now, but haven't done much > work because of school. If you find the time to join our activities now, you're heartily welcome :-) > I see that people are working on a new logo and the designs are interesting, > but I think seeing Graphic Design students work would really impress you. There is just one point to keep in mind: The present OOo logo is trademarked and proprietary licensed (therefore allowance every usage should be requested at logos@...) to protect our branding identity. As long as we're working on any improvement inside the project, we can be quite sure that this work will not be used instead of the official logo in public. With external public work this might be different. Therefore I recommend the students at your school to join us here when working on the logo. You might get a dedicated wiki area for your school to work on - but please keep in touch with us when working on central (meaning of branding relevant) artwork for OOo. > I started reading the Wiki.. Any real change in the logo will probably not be considered as reasonable before the release of OOo4.0. Design recommendations are mentioned at the top of the wiki page where we present our drafts: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Art/Visual_Concept_Proposals If there are open questions, just ask... > Does this sound like a good idea? Of course :-) (while respecting the branding issue) Valuable concepts and ideas are always welcome. Re: Open Logo Work.Bernhard,
I'm glad to hear it! I will put the information on our website now. I want to clarify one thing though, I wont be having students do work without approval, it would be mock ups seen internally.. I'm actually just going to explain how to join the group or have them submit designs to me and I'll upload by proxy. We wont be showing the work publicly without permission. I dont know if I'll get much response, but its a good opportunity for us.. -Dennis On Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 7:18 AM, Bernhard Dippold < bernhard@...> wrote: > Hi Dennis, > > Dennis Smolek schrieb: > >> I was wondering if it would be ok for me to post posters etc to get >> students >> here at the university to try some work on the Ooo Logo. >> > > It's great to get students involved in OOo - thanks for your commitment! > > [...] >> I have been on this list for almost a year or so now, but haven't done >> much >> work because of school. >> > > If you find the time to join our activities now, you're heartily welcome > :-) > > I see that people are working on a new logo and the designs are >> interesting, >> but I think seeing Graphic Design students work would really impress you. >> > > There is just one point to keep in mind: The present OOo logo is > trademarked and proprietary licensed (therefore allowance every usage should > be requested at logos@...) to protect our branding > identity.
