Open Office: Mac PPC-OSX

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am writing to inquire about my current options running Open Office
on a Power Mac G5 under Mac OS 10.5.6. According to the release
pages, and the platforms table, I see that I am currently limited to
version 2.4.0 which does not successfully launch onto my machine.
Upon double click of the icon, it invokes the X11 environment, then
hangs up, giving a "Command timed out" error message. Let me know
what my prospects are for the Aqua 3.1.1 release, as this would be
preferable given the time invested to get it going, and given the
improvements made to the later release.

This is not true. 3.0 3.1 and 3.1.1 are all released for PPC. I run

Hi Barry,

unfortunately Mac OS PPC is no longer the favorite platform for the
users. So there are only a few testers that could do the needed test
routines to give the 3.1.1 RC2 build the QA approval but this has not
happed yet. Maybe you could become one of them? :-)

I pointed him to the Mac install CD image. He's downloaded it and has 3.1.1RC2
running already.
