I'm trying to not be gulible, but can someone shed some light on this:
http://www.openofficemouse.com/pr110609.html

I notice that there is no Sun or OOo logos, so it really does not look
official. Noticed here:

When I first saw reports on the «OpenOffice mouse», I couldn't help thinking
that it was a spoof - 18 buttons ?!! Notice also that the URL is not
something on the order of «openoffice.org/mouse...», which one would expect
if the mouse was an OpenOffice.org project, but rather
«openofficemouse.com...» But who knows ?...

I checked on the domain using whois.sc and whoever set up this domain in
Dec 2008 they have set it up with privacy on it.

The domain currently expires in Dec 2009

In contrast OpenOffice.org is owner by Sun microsystems ltd

It definitely looks a spoof

I actually held this mouse in my hands at the OOoCon in Italy last week.
It exists and it seems to work. I talked to the guy that invented the
mouse. The mouse be used with other software too of course and yes it
had a lot of buttons and even a thumb joystick at the left side. I
haven't actually seen it in action.

I register my domains on a year-by-year basis as well. They all
"expire" in 12 months, but they are renewed well before that.

Dotan, all,

It turns out to be quite real,

.  Got the link from the Marketing Project.  John McCreesh is the lead
for the Marketing Project, as listed on you link.

The only real deal for registering for more than
one year at a time is some sort of discount.  I
started out with one registering company and them
moved a few times till if found the best one for
me, and for a better price.  Same for web hosting
companies.  I have had one of my domains out there
for over 15 years and moved it 4+ times as prices
and service change.  So the year-by-year basis is
not a telling point.  I currently use a monthly
billing for my web hosting company, since I did not
have the full yearly fee that month.

Tim L.
online for over 15 years, where my first email address
was over 60 characters due to the way email were done
back then.

This was presented on Wednesday (4 November) at the OOo Conference (in
Orvieto Italy):
http://conference.services.openoffice.org/index.php/ooocon/2009/paper/view/4
The Impress presentation will hopefully be made available soon.
You can watch the video of the presentation
http://media.lscube.org/view?what=/oooconf/4%20Nov%202009/Sala%20Governatore/capture_av_04_POMERIGGIO.mpg
The presentation starts at about the 4h05m mark on the video stream.

This should explain what OpenOfficeMouse is all about.  It's interesting.

Thanks, Arthur, for this report ! Obviously, then, the mouse story is not a
spoof and I stand corrected, but for the present I think I'll just stick
with my three-buttoned versions....

FWIW, the original mice for Unix had 5 buttons, and 20 something chords.
I once ran into somebody who had two 5 button mice in their *Nix
system.  Each mice had a different set of commands.

People have been trying to get "chorded keyboards" off the ground for
years. For example, the Microwriter of the early '80s. Many claim they
can reach respectable typing speeds using these devices. The idea of
combining one with a mouse might be interesting ...
