Opera 10Hi,
Is anyone using Opera 10.0 with amd64. I have installed it, but it is slow as to be unuseable. This is apparently only an issue on amd64, since it works fine on x386 on my home box. Does anyone have a clue as to what the problem is? I ran strace -c opera with the following output: % time seconds usecs/call calls errors syscall ------ ----------- ----------- --------- --------- ---------------- 18.00 0.012159 529 23 5 wait4 14.11 0.009532 0 27068 4 poll 12.34 0.008338 1 16010 select 8.86 0.005988 1 11091 11089 connect 7.96 0.005375 0 11696 1 close 7.36 0.004975 0 77723 mprotect 6.54 0.004420 0 11103 sendto 6.30 0.004253 177 24 clone 4.37 0.002950 0 28249 recvfrom 3.67 0.002479 0 53200 34239 read 3.58 0.002421 0 44911 fcntl 2.08 0.001406 0 11092 1 socket 2.01 0.001360 0 14006 writev 0.65 0.000436 0 11086 setsockopt 0.57 0.000383 0 11085 getsockopt 0.49 0.000332 0 23646 7555 stat 0.40 0.000267 0 984 424 open 0.18 0.000120 0 785 1 ioctl 0.17 0.000117 0 1837 454 lstat 0.14 0.000092 1 73 getdents 0.09 0.000062 0 380 70 access 0.07 0.000044 0 1735 write 0.04 0.000025 0 1657 fstat 0.03 0.000017 0 327 brk 0.00 0.000000 0 5210 lseek 0.00 0.000000 0 564 mmap 0.00 0.000000 0 416 munmap 0.00 0.000000 0 20 rt_sigaction 0.00 0.000000 0 1 rt_sigprocmask 0.00 0.000000 0 9 4 rt_sigreturn 0.00 0.000000 0 23 pipe 0.00 0.000000 0 20 madvise 0.00 0.000000 0 1 getpid 0.00 0.000000 0 1 getsockname 0.00 0.000000 0 1 getpeername 0.00 0.000000 0 2 execve 0.00 0.000000 0 4 kill 0.00 0.000000 0 11 uname 0.00 0.000000 0 20 fsync 0.00 0.000000 0 84 ftruncate 0.00 0.000000 0 20 rename 0.00 0.000000 0 6 unlink 0.00 0.000000 0 62 2 readlink 0.00 0.000000 0 40 umask 0.00 0.000000 0 1 getrlimit 0.00 0.000000 0 7 getuid 0.00 0.000000 0 5 getgid 0.00 0.000000 0 5 geteuid 0.00 0.000000 0 3 getegid 0.00 0.000000 0 1 getppid 0.00 0.000000 0 2 getgroups 0.00 0.000000 0 2 arch_prctl 0.00 0.000000 0 268 futex 0.00 0.000000 0 1 set_tid_address 0.00 0.000000 0 1 set_robust_list ------ ----------- ----------- --------- --------- ---------------- 100.00 0.067551 366602 53849 total -Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Christopher Judd, Ph. I installed the qt4 .deb, but unfortunately it is only slightly better. After viewing a few pages, it becomes extremely slow and top shows it using 97 - 100% of cpu time. I'll play around with it some more when I have time. By the way, are you running squeeze or sid? I have squeeze installed here. -Chris ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Christopher Judd, Ph. Try to detect whether the webpages you visit are specific (say, contain a lot of animation). Best Liviu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-amd64-REQUEST@... with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Can't say I've really noticed any problems with respect to speed. Have you tried starting opera clean (moving .opera out of the way) to see if it's nothing there?
