Hi all,

The Opie 1.2.5 cycle is now drawing to a close - most of the bugs on the
agenda have been fixed and a significant number of changes have taken place. For
reference, the 1.2.5 master bug:

 http://opie-bugs.softec.co.nz/view.php?id=1898

I've just moved the following bugs from the 1.2.5 master bug to the newly
created 1.2.6 one (0001934) since I think they can comfortably be left until
next time:

* 0001897: Optionally disable built-in FTP server if syncing not in progress
* 0001870: Add simple mime detector to libopieobex
* 0000875: launcher polls

Status of the remaining bugs is as follows:

* 0001910: Large time jump causes Datebook problems
To be finished by me; shouldn't be too tricky now that (I think) I have figured
out where the problem lies.

* 0000774: Need some sort of feedback when going to suspend mode
I've done some work on this but it will mostly have to wait until next
release.

* 0001922: OpieIRC crashes
Can't reproduce this anymore, although since it was intermittent in the first
place I want to test OpieIRC further on an actual device before marking it
resolved.

* 0001931: Make SQLite backends the default for 1.2.5
To be done by me - fairly trivial.

* 0001899: Finish Datebook2 rewrite
Largely finished. All that really remains other than testing is to replace
datebook1.

* 0001878: Support syncing in SQL backend
Mostly done, but I'm waiting until the OpenSync plugin is fully working (and
therefore I can be sure that no more protocol changes are needed) before
marking this as resolved.

* 0001829: irdaapplet causes qpe to crash when sending files
Honestly I have not looked into this, not sure if it is still an issue
although my gut says it probably is. It has to be some kind of race
condition. I really hope we don't have to postpone this one yet again - I
believe it was originally on the cards for 1.2.3!

* 0001831: Default button combination to launch calibration
I think this ought to be done. Shouldn't be too hard - the only slightly
tricky thing is to come up with a way to register the appropriate key
combination for each device, since not all devices have the buttons discussed.

I'm open to fixing any other issues if there are any urgent ones to be fixed -
please let me know ASAP. In about two weeks I think we should freeze
development and begin testing. Thoughts?

Cheers,
Paul

If Linux is running on the device and you can cross-compile Opie for MIPS
(perhaps with OpenEmbedded?) then you should be able to run it on MIPS. No

Hi all,

I am glad to announce that Opie has now migrated revision control systems,
from CVS to Git, with the master repository hosted on gitorious.org. The web
interface to the new repository can be found here:

 http://gitorious.org/opie/opie

All commit history from CVS has been preserved in the transition. The old CVS
repository is likely to be preserved anyway, but should not be committed to
any further.

Unfortunately gitorious.org does not currently support email notifications or
cia.vc integration, although they are working on it; in the mean time I have a
script to do these manually.

Feel free to clone the new repository. If you'd like committer access please
contact me directly.

Well, git seems to be one of the most widely used distributed SCMs in the open
source / free software world - many projects are using it or planning to use
it, both high-profile and lesser known ones. As a bonus for me I have been
using git already as part of the OpenEmbedded project, and Erik is also very

I don't doubt that other distributed SCMs have their merits - hg and bazaar

Hi all,

I am planning to migrate Opie's source code repository from CVS to git. CVS is
getting quite old and has been rather limiting for some time now, and git
seems like the natural alternative for an open project. While the CVS
repository will likely remain for reference I think it's desirable to transfer
all of the old history to git rather than starting from scratch, so that you
can see the full change history for all files there. Thus I will be using
cvs2git to perform the conversion.

One of the subparts of this conversion is to translate CVS committer names
into "name <email>" format. This required a little detective work on my part,
however using the public mailing list archives and some of my own knowledge I
was able to come up with the following (email addresses semi-obfuscated for
web purposes only):

 http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/CommitterNames

Most of the email addresses have been defaulted to username@...; for
a select few recent committers I have used email addresses that were used on
the mailing list. It's possible that I have made a mistake somewhere or even
that some committers would prefer a different email address to be used - I'm
happy to modify people's entries if they want.

I plan on doing the final conversion during this coming weekend, so if anyone
wants anything corrected please reply here or email me directly by Sunday.

Cheers,
Paul
> i check the CVS,but the directory of /opie/lib is empty!

You will not find these binary files in CVS, they will (or should) be being
built as part of building Opie and Qt/E. I would guess that an important path
variable is not being set somewhere.

FYI, when I need to cross-compile Opie I always do it using OpenEmbedded, and
I strongly recommend others to do so as well - it takes care of nearly all the
annoying setup and you should not have problems like this. I don't mean to say
that the method you are using is unsupported, but I don't normally do it this
way and so I can't offer too much advice about any issues regarding it.
