Origin of outdated contrib/RPM ?

Hi,

I've found there is squirrelmail.spec and config.php.redhat in contrib/RPM.
What is the origin of these files? At least squirrelmail.spec seems little
outdated - definitions for red hat linux 7 (before RHEL and Fedora split) and
version 1.4.3

Is config.php.redhat somehow related to Red Hat or it's just default config file
used for redhat-like systems? In cvs it seems 3 years old...

Any information is welcomed.

Thanks,
Michal Hlavinka

With respect to the squirrelmail.spec file, as the changelog also
suggests, I believe that Konstantin Ryabitsev was actively maintaining and
updating it for each SquirrelMail release, but has since stopped doing
this. While the latest changelog entry in the SquirrelMail original source
is with respect to the 1.4.3 release, he seems to have maintained the RPMs
for a little longer, externally to the squirrelmail.org source.

It was apparent to me at the time that the advent of Fedora Core and the
(wonderfully) aggressive maintenance of the squirrelmail spec file within
the (Fedora) project's RPM maintenance largely obsoleted the need for the
squirrelmail.spec in the original source. It looks to have remained there
without being updated. (From an RHEL/Fedora user's point of view, I see
benefit in having the Fedora Project updated the spec file in the original
source with theirs.)

With respect to the config.php.redhat file, I believe that some people
used the config.php.redhat file for redhat-like systems as well as
specific Red Hat Linux releases.

# I spent a lot of time on SquirrelMail (squirrelmail and squirrelmail-ja)
RPMs for the Japanese SquirrelMail community at around the time that the
spec file above was current. I first based my initial RPMs on that spec
file, and then that maintained by Fedora (then of course Fedora Core),
which also was based on this spec file (as you would know). I based my
reply above on my then observations (and recollection) of how the spec
file(s) was(were) being maintained at the time.

Scott.
