Same result each time. Are you sure you are using a proper USB OTG cable? As the instructions say, a standard mini-B to A cable that you have lying around will *not* work. You must use the white USB OTG cable available from Gumstix or a cable specifically marked as an OTG cable. These cables are not easy to find, so if you didn't order the Gumstix white cable or special order an OTG cable, you are likely using the wrong cable and it will not work. Just realized likely misread your post. I was assuming you were trying to use a USB keyboard attached to the OTG port with a display attached to the HDMI port! If you are trying to enter text to the console session using the console usb port (which does work with a standard USB cable) then you may indeed have bad hardware. It is very unlikely in this case that the USB cable is bad since you are getting the boot messages. Re: Overo ConsoleI had exactly same problem when I got my overo + summit when it arrived.
(Serial access was not getting any input) I used ubuntu linux and minicom terminal and got to spend quite a bit configuring and trying different options, after I realized that 115k speed without hardware handshaking is way to go. And make sure that you're following your ttyUSB (in Linux) setting, which can be inspected with dmesg command (in Linux). I think this is just an indication that environment was never written to NAND, a simple "saveenv" command at U-Boot prompt will fix this annoying, but harmless warning. Re: Overo ConsoleI had the same problem with my Overo Fire / Summit setup since I got it last week. I finally realized the absurd nature of my problem... Looks like whoever built my Summit board (rev.2430) neglected to populate IC3, which is used to buffer the RXD signal form the console FTDI chip back the the OMAP UART. So nothing is connected to the OMAP RXD at all. I can see a proper waveform when i type into the terminal session on my laptop and probe pad 2, where the buffer is supposed to be. Looks like circuit is designed to show the OMAP RXD a high impedence when you arent plugged in to a console. I just jumped pad 2 to pad 4 and now the console works like it should. I can finally login with kermit and do stuff.
This (particular thing) is not a problem with the rev.2430 layout, just some batch of assembled boards from what I can assume. -zach

Re: Overo ConsoleHi James,
I had simialr problems when I first took delivery of my Overo Air and Tobi boards, I have two of each. After searching through these pages I finally found the following link: http://www.sakoman.com/feeds/omap3/glibc/images/overo/200906032120/ I downloaded all of the necessary pre-built packages and then copied them to Micro SD as instructed at the Gumstix pages... http://www.gumstix.net/Documentation/view/Overo/Creating-a-bootable-microSD-card/109.html. On powering up the system I had to make further changes to get wifi, ethernet and Dropbear ssh all of which I now have working. I still do not have hdmi out, but I do not need this and I am now trying to build the mainline over-oe software. Basically I was at the same point you are, I thought the boards were damaged, but it turned out that I just had to load the correct software and hey presto. It would be nice if they had shipped with this, but you can't have it that easy it seems. I hope this helps. Stuart
