PVR-500 with SMK Ehome receiver and RC6 remote (MCE-remote?), mceusb2 driver

Hi, I've now tried getting this remote to work for two days without any luck..

The remote seems to be a Hauppauge-version of the MCE-remote, marked "RC6" on the back.
The receiver is an usb dongle, marked SMK on the back, recognized as an "SMK eHome Infrared Transceiver on usb2:2"

I'm starting lircd as following:
lircd --device=/dev/lirc0

("cat /dev/lirc0" outputs binary data when pressing buttons on the remote)

"irw" outputs nothing, just hangs silent on the console.

"irrecord --device=/dev/lirc0 /etc/lircd.conf" outputs the following:

<snip>
irrecord: 1
irrecord: pending pulse: 0
irrecord: 1
irrecord: pending pulse: 0
irrecord: 1
irrecord: code: 1fff
irrecord: sum: 0
irrecord: +p450
irrecord: space expected
Something went wrong. irrecord: driver supports receiving
Please try again. (8 retries left)
irrecord: no data for 10 secs, aborting

<end of output>

kernel: 2.6.17-gentoo-r4
lircd: 0.8.1-CVS

Any help on getting this to work any further greatly appreciated :)
