Paid services on drupal.org

I'm interested to hear about your experiences with Paid services section on drupal.org, and Jobs on groups too.

Do you bid for projects there, did you get any clients and referrals through those clients, are there any differences between those clients and the offline ones, how serious are they? Is it possible to build a reputation that way or can it be only done offline with local projects? Should strategies differ for someone new to Drupal community and an experienced Drupaler? Any additional advice you can share?

I'm very grateful for your input, there's a lot of smart people here! I hope you don't mind my inquisitive approach :)

I usually offer my services there for Drupal and Ubercart theming and module development. The way I do it is presenting myself and offering a solution or ask for more information if needed. That way I can quote them in a semi-formal way. Charging by hour most of the time. But the problem is there are a lot of requests from people who tried to do it themselves and screwed up or have a broken site and is looking for fixes for less than $200.

That said I still get quite a few good clients for bigger projects. It's not bad but I would love to see something more official/professional.

Ivan,

You peaked my curiosity ... what is it you had in mind for something more official/professional.

To be honest, I don't have many ideas:

Add some kind of template, kinda what you see when submitting an issue on the Chromium http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/entry

But more important is adding guidelines for both people asking for and people offering services.

My 2 cents

I think Google Wave might be a good fit for the paid services page (maybe even the forums, too!) when it's publicly released. Obviously, that has no bearing on the present, but it may be something to keep in mind.
