Sent: Thursday, September 10, 2009 11:51 AM Subject: [bike-engined-cars] Paint on inside of body panel For painting use a plastic primer and you should be OK with any rattle can over the top. I have heard of people using underseal on the insides of fibreglass wheelarches. It does stop cracking and stonechipping of the fibreglass, crucial where a single piece of fibre glass provides the inside of the wheel arch and the painted body. However, after a few years the underseal can be seen on unpainted cars through the gel coat. Fibre glass is not waterproof, and the underseal is obviously working into the material. What this does to the structural integrity of the panel I wouldn't like to say. If you want to be really safe, apply a layer of top coat gel to the insides of the panel before treating them. Top coat is just gel coat, with an added liquid wax, so that it will harden outside of the mould. Cornish Fibreglass Supplies (CFS) should be able to furnish you with some mail order. It's goopy stuff though and you may not be able to apply a thin coat!
