I feel like an intruder, but my little granddaughter signed me up and tried to teach me about pandora robots, but sadly she moved to another state before I really understood much. After looking up a few A.I's I have become very interested. I was wondering if anyone could kindly recommend some reading for me on the subject. Thank you .

Well, in Second Life I believe that recording logs of chat sessions is
prohibited by their TOS unless you put up some kind of notification AND
you have a really good reason for doing it. However, as for someone
"overhearing" chat as it is taking place, you have no more expectation
of privacy than you would have on a public street. You should never
assume in open chat that no one is listening. If you expect privacy,
you can use the IM feature.

I think common courtesy would dictate that you notified the user if your
bot was being "possessed" though, as well as giving some notification in
the first place that the user is talking to a bot and not a real person
behind an avatar. It can get confusing in either direction otherwise. :D

I don't think it would be wiretspping but a warning saying logs are kept would be good like when you call any customer service now a days. Also the representstion thing is true maybe the prson dowesnt want to talk to a human just human ai and also gender comes into play depending on what's being talked about.

What you're asking for isn't a new concept.

If you've never played an online game called a MOO or a MUD, you might want to check a few out.

Those sorts of games have large numbers of computer animated characters that the human players can interact with, and the game admins can "switch" into the computer characters if they want. That allows them to bring the computer character to life.

This would be much easier than that. all you'd need to do is toggle a "chat over-ride" flag, and then you'd do the typing to chat for your bot. You'd need a simple interface that would show you what the other person typed to you.

You could probably set up an AIM or google chat widget to show you what they were typing, then set up something fairly simple to chat back and have your avatar talk.

Seems like a great opportunity for SpellBinder technology. I'd have
to consult my colleagues to be sure, but I believe I can make the same
offer to hobbyists here that I've made on the knytetrypper forum. I'm
willing to try SpellBinder on an experimental basis with hobbyists who
can provide the source transcripts, at a very reasonable cost to them,
for the purpose of getting feedback on the technology. Contact me off
list for a discussion if you are interested.

Eventually SpellBinder will be a product and everyone can try it.

I've been using Pandorabots/AIML in Second Life for five or six years now...since I was already an AIML hound, it was just natural to take it virtual when that opportunity came up with SL. I even include an introduction to Pandorabots in the courses and groups I lead with educators and business leaders in-world...taking them through a workshop in which they use an SL script set to link to a Pandorabot they create. We've ended up with talking pelicans, parrots, trees, chairs, clouds, fish, dragons, lizards..and on occasion even somthing resembling a human.

One direction I want to go, that I simply haven't had the time to explore, is to use Pandorabots to communicate on the various SL "channels", giving them the ability to control things in-world...such as media channels, in-world web browsers...and a heck of a lot more. I'm thinking it should be pretty simple to do....just embedding the channel commands into the responses...but haven't tried it. If it DOES work, it is going to open an entirely new direction for our work with our groups...so fingers are crossed.

We also regularly link our Pandorabot brains to things like the SL PikkuBots, which as others have already described, give you a wide range of functionality in-world.

Overall, the challenge for most folks I've worked with in-world is the same challenge as those out here in the carbon-based world...that of time. It simply takes a lot of time to create an intelligence that can be "trusted" to handle the level of conversation many in SL want to see in their bots. That is certainly not a complaint or 'whine'....but a choice that folks just need to make at this point in the technology. The creation of your new service could end up being a great help for creating more sophisticated bots...but since so many folks in SL are still doing the creating on their "own dime", it may be a while before we see that service establish a significant beachhead in-world.

I also want just throw a "CONGRATS" out to Lesele, whom I've seen posting here. She has worked very hard to bring the Pandorabots technology into her dissertation, and it is really exciting to see that finally coming to fruition....go get 'em Lesele!

An alt is like a secondary avatar. I make a new one about once a
month, because I enjoy the challenge of outfitting a new avatar with
zero $Lindens. They're otherwise handy as the output of a bot, or as
manikins, or as friendless sandbox avatars when you want distraction
free building.

An Alt is an "alternative avatar", one that could be set up as a bot
using AIM-L scripting to control output. Anyone who has more than one
SL account considers one avatar the "main" character, and others as
"Alt".

It's quite easy to access a pandora bot through LSL -- scripts have
http functions. You'd script a prim and attach it to your avatar.
The trade-off is that script output is a different color than avatar
chat text. With some in-line markup, you can instruct LSL to trigger
animations and move the avatar.

You could conceivably modify Open Metaverse to access a pandora bot
and control an avatar from a server. That would give the
functionality of a pandora bot and grant it all the client
capabilities of a meat controlled avatar.

Are you elderly-bots scripted prims? If they are, you can keep the
chat in open if you have them ignore each other. Just have the listen
event check if the received chat is from an av or a prim --
llGetAgentSize(key id) returns a zero vector for things you can
ignore. You can script llInstantMessage to send chat to an agent
privately, there's there's a 2 second script delay after an IM.

Hello There! I am using 2 Pandorabot scripts to simulate an Emergency Room geriatric patient intake interview, Grace and George. I need help figuring out how to have the Pandorabots IM with the nursing students instead of Chatting with students because the Chat will have them all talking to each other and not talking just with the student in the small room who is supposed to be talking with them.

Is there anyone who would have a few minutes to help me get this figured out, or point me in the right direction to the resources that can guide this specific programming project?

No, and no. 1) Pandora is not a flesh and bones representation of an avatar,
its just a scripted brain in a box, doesnt move, doesnt think of moving. 2)
LSL has no code or involvement with pandora at all.

Use a different kind of bot and add pandora functionality, one preprogrammed
to accept the feed and act as middleman.
