I noticed Scott asking about Pandorabots in SL and thought the forum would
be interested in our experience.

The LSL (Linden scripting language) enables one to be quite creative with
the use of Pandorabots in SL.  We use Pandorabots through an invisible
object inside which our 'receptionist', an avatar that is kept in play via a
server, sits and greets visitors and enters into a dialogue with them. The
visitors experience is that they are talking to another avatar - some chat
for quite a while before realising they are talking to a bot (usually when
they ask her for a date - lol).

There are two scripts - the first does a number of things such as read some
data from the chatting avatar and sets up some variables for use during the
conversation such as the avatar's name, SL birth date, SL age, the area
where the avatar is standing in, etc.  It also processes the dialogue and
makes substitutions for instance it substitutes mathematical symbols for
words so that Pandorabots can use the correct patterns.  It then sends this
dialogue up to Pandorabots.

The second script processes the return information from Pandorabots.  It
handles all the mathematical calculations within LSL instead of within
Pandorabots, and looks out for keywords so that sounds can be played (e.g.
so it appears that the receptionist laughs when saying something funny),
offers relevant URLs and can open webpages inside SL and give out relevant
notecards and landmarks.  It will even offer to send instant messages or
emails to its owner should the chatter say things like 'Who owns you'.

The default Alice knowledgebase has been optimised for use in SL and has
been considerably added to with knowledge about SL.  For different
commercial clients, we then add another file that contains patterns about
their business that the 'receptionist' should know.

Feel free to come and talk to our Pandorabot avatar, Kmaid Bates.  You can
come and chat with her in the Blue Horizon Business Park.  She is located in
the conference centre reception - which should be the landing point if
locating 'Blue Horizon' via Map Search or regular Search.

As with all other Pandorabots, Kmaid is an ongoing work in progress so all
interactions are very welcome.

How are you using Pandora bots in SL?  Do you have it conversing via an
avatar, or through an object?

Regards,
Scotto.

Thanks, Alan.

We also have bots in SL on Baker Island, but they are running under Program#
(www.alicebot.org).  The bots are actual avatars in SL, but are logged in
and run via libsecondlife.  They are also animated so that they "type" when
composing an answer.  Most of the code for our bots is external to SL, and
uses libsecondlife and Program# integrated into the same executable.

I'll come over and talk to your bot a little later.  Baker Island is
private, but I'll be happy to arrange a tour sometime.

Best regards,
scotto...

RES: Pandorabots in SL

Hi Alan and all pandorabot's =)

I'm using my pandorabot in SL as an avatar =) using an awesome product
calls "Thoys Bot" http://slbot.thoys.nl/ (secondlife://Incubus/32/145/59)

I pass many many days searching this kind of BOT, cause at present time
all "bot system's" that I found that supports a.l.i.c.e and aiml's stuffs
are "prim avatars" , i mean, not real registred avatars but some prims
modelated for look like an avatar and with some scripts and all stuffs
for pandorabot supports inside them.

Thoys Bots shocking me... cause they are a little bit "polemic" , I see
one article in the web mentione them with some kind of "abuse" , cause
landlords of shoppings and commercial lands start using this kind of
technology to promote lands and high traffic levels using many many
many of this kind of bots inside a "false walls" , "false rivers", etc
with bots inside... just for boast traffic and promote lands =(

But for educational uses and learning proposes and maybe just for fun,
Thoy Bots in this "mashup" with pandorabots its fantastic!!!

I try this ... register a new avatar in thoy bots land (the price?
2000 L$, not so high considering that you will create a A.I, hum?)
download the thoy bots client (still beta, but I think good) ,and
assign them an pandorabot ID and the magic happens!! =) !!

I do this creating a "virtual version" of my DOG in real life hehe =)
And... wow!! Thoy bots mix with pandorabots its really really fantastic!!

Thoy bots have a "HUD" interface too (I think 300 L$, don't remember
really). And with this HUD you can control you BOT (a real avatar)
through the buttons of this HUD... like walk, turn, fly, teleport,
follow me (this is the best one! Avatar follows your "master")
and a lot of others functions, some of them still under development.

So... I try now create some AIML's in Portuguese for apply in my "dog-bot"
=)
I see in the web that at now just 1 portuguese/brasilian was been made
(in 2004 year) calls "cybora " and no more notices that some new
aiml's created for Portuguese/brasilian.

So... i think this can be open a nice talk here... about polemic
of "bots" in SL , and the nice and health use of pandorabot's
mixing with scripted prims or a avatar using a technology
like thoy's bot =) !!

If some one wants take a look in my "bot-dog" go to Second Life
and search for me ... My avatar in Second Life is "Branco Merlin"
and my dog "Baddu Magic" =) !!

(sorry , my english sux)

Hugs from Brasil!!

I am working on my own Pandorabot within Second Life (thanks to my melodramatic side, the room is a faithful remake of HAL 9000's brain room :-P)

I'm working with a few other people to 'cover up' the inabilty of the AIML data-set.
