Panning/rendering on the International Date Line

I have some polygons that cross the International Date Line (IDL).   I want to be able to pan to the IDL and see the polygon in its entirety w/o being split.  Currently, I do not know how to make the renderer pan across the IDL.  Openmap can do this, and I'm sure geotools can as well.   Would somebody be willing to give me a hint?  Thanks.
