Ok, maybe I was not clear enough in my previous post http://www.nabble.com/NM1-patterns-td20583487.html but this is what I am trying to do.

I am doing a live set with a partner and we are syncing up 2 Macs running 2 Abletons and one of them also has Reaktor with Nord Modular and MPC500.

My main issue with Nord was to have it syncing to midi clock. I managed to slave few of my favorite patches and it works fine. However, I am thinking between constructed and random approach or combination of those two. Any suggestion is welcome.

Basicly, I would like to have my simple note / event sequencer patch to be able to 'call up' different / preprogramed patterns. Example: If I am to program 10 different basss lines, to be able to assign them to a pot or 2 external up and down buttons and change those patterns.

Also, I would like to have a random pattern generator using an osc + note sequencer. I have a bleek idea how to make this but if anyone can make a suggestion what would be the best way to do that or of some patch examples in the library, please let me know, help is much needed and appreciated.

All the best,

Harry Belafonte

I would choose between having
10 patches each with it's own sequencer, assigned by ordinary program#
or 10 different sequencers in one patch (CPU costly) and then assign the 10
patches with a switch using CC or note#

What should be randomed? notes?
you will have to do a sketch and send that patch to the list/on a webpage
then we can have a look.

Hello Harry,

why don't you go for a clock synced pattern generator with a key quantizer.
you can take a switch module, feed it with 4 constant modules, each on an
other value, and route that to the pattern generator modulation input.
hope this helps.
best, roland

As mentioned before--
the pattern generator is a huge source of good random patterns when
you tweak the output with key quantizers and scalers.. range limeted
triggers and so on..

For the pre programed pattern part you soon will reach the limit of
the NM..its not a pattern machine..more than 4 is just not really
possible...

I came to the point that its best to use the classical entertainment
keyboard aproach ..
where you have a main pattern..a variation ..and a fill.
together with some modifiers it is just that what a single slot of the
nm can provide with leaving enough resources to create an interesting
sound...

actually there are very few synts that can provide that in one
patch..for more you need an external sequencer..as usual...

Or a G2 where  you can have this 8 timmes in one patch = 8 patterns
+variation+fill..

which is too much allready again.

And regarding syncing.. in my opinion the NM is one of the very best
machines to run perfectly in sync with other devices..its just that
you need to have the wright reset circuits implanted.. AND..its so
fast in relation to plug in synths and slomo digital stuff that you
need to use logic delays to make everything 1-2 ms later... sometimes
even 5 ms...

with the corect reset you never will question the syncing of the nm
again..the problen is just that many modern machines are late..so
together with the NM it just dont sounds wright without additional
delay...

regards
Sven

good think about the delay sven, i only use hardare(nm/g2/receptor), so no
problems with latency(receptor is fast too).
