I could understand that too.
I like modern art and music most, but I dislike most modern art and music.

Well, if I hadn't discovered SuperCollider I probably would have changed
my major a lot sooner.  I still think it's the best audio software out there and the only
thing in its class.

I became a programmer though SC and don't do music anymore really..
but that was more like the right path than being led astray.. one
leads oneself astray i think? :)

For each one of those people, there is a person like me who would have
no other way of making music if SuperCollider didn't exist.

wait, wait, wait.. not to keep flogging a dead thread, but... why
must a composer exhaust their output in a genre before moving on to
another? can't you just start painting now, even in the midst of
writing the string quartets?

I understand single-mindedness, but I personally have always been
involved in so many styles/genres/instrumentation/media in both
serial and overlapping time frames in my life that I just thought it
normal artistic comportment. (Until, of course, I lost out in the
final few spots for the PhD program at Mr Lansky's deptartment a few
years ago. I was advised to "narrow my focus."  Maybe that's just the
Princeton way? Can't do something while you're already doing
something else?)

From some earlier comments of mine in this thread, one might guess that my style would be to drop some firebombs in the press, then sit back and laugh while others make much ado over it. Mischief has its place and time... still I suppose it's a good thing I'm not due for any NY Times interviews any time soon :-p

Much respect for all the great work over the years -- hearing Ride in Beijing in 2005 is still a vivid musical memory, some 3 years later -- and I've no doubt the acoustic work will have the same wit and heart.

Hi James,

let me add that much of my work in the last ten years was done in
different incarnations of SC. Many of these projects would have been
impossible without SC, or at least 3-10 times more headache.

So please add me to the 'very big thank you'-list.

best, adc

There's an error in the Env helpfile.
Env.asr doesn't have a peaklevel:

*asr { arg attackTime=0.01, sustainLevel=1.0, releaseTime=1.0, curve = -4.0;
^this.new(
[0, sustainLevel, 0],
[attackTime, releaseTime],
curve,
1
)
}

Please start a new thread when posting to the list (don't just reply to another message and change the subject).
