Pebble still alive?I've reported 5 bugs since August 11th, but none has been fixed yet (OK, one
I've added a few minutes ago). That's not what I expect from an active project. Hi Mike, This fell just into the time of my holidays - I'm back since yesterday and hope to have a look later this day. Regarding the activity in the project - yes, it could use more, but it all depends on voluntary action. I wouldn't mind if more volunteers joined the team. Re: Pebble still alive?I've sign up this morning and I've watching Mike issues. As Olaf says
in some of this issues, I can't reproduce this errors in my clean Pebble installation. Could you (Mike) send more information about your own issues? Maybe I would help us. Re: Pebble still alive?Almost how to generate the issues or what is the parameters to produce
the error? What is your environment? I say that because if you only send the stack trace I don't know how to force this errors. Re: Pebble still alive?Well, I've picked the NPEs from the catalina.out log file. I slightly
understand you, because we often get just stacktraces from users for our (Java desktop) applications. NPEs usually are quite good to hunt, e.g. by adding more assertions or taking a closer look at the source code (you have the advantage of not obfuscated stacktraces...). IIRC, a few errors happened in own listener code. It might be a good idea in this case to guard them with catch blocks, so an exception from one listener does not mean the other listeners don't get informed. Re: Pebble still alive?David,
You can sign up for an account at http://open.jira.com. All the above is definitely possible. Project administrators such as Olaf can choose who they want to be assignable to issues in JIRA, and who can update them etc. Currently, they need to raise a support ticket to add committers, but some work has been done towards allowing project administrators to configure committers themselves (Open Studio is still a new platform adapted from a single tennant design to a multi tennant design for open source projects). Your workflow can easily be configured in JIRA, if thats something the Pebble community wants to use, we'll make a workflow specifically for Pebble to do that. Notwithstanding I see the banter bouncing back-and-forth between Mike et. al. > > At the small company where I work we cannot afford Jira though I am in favor of using those services. Instead I did convince my company to use bitbucket.org. Though bitbucket is a far cry from Jira it still allows me to manage our locally grown Wicket applications. Since we are a small company not only the SCM suffers but we do not have enough help for our systems development in general and with the current economics no hiring in sight. Most of our IT staff is admin but I know they have some programming background. When we got our bitbucket.org CNAME I immediatly went to work assigning issues to some of the IT staff admin folks. The bitbucket issue tracker is not on par with Jira but it has all that is needed to do basic issue tracking on a reliable level. Since the bitbucket issue tracker has administrative Reader/Writer permissions for registered users I decided to give all of the IT staff Reader/Writer permissions on all 5 of our repos. I have lamented my concerns to the m > anagement that if they want to see more and better progress on applications development and maintenance then the users of the systems and the technologically capable (the IT staff) need to get involved. For the folks to get involved all they have to do is register an account with bitbucket. Once I had a few user accounts registered I went to work: > > * I review the bugs and issues logged and I try to match the difficulty of the bug or issue with the capability of the registered account holders (IT staff). > * I then assign the target bug or issue to the target techie. > * The assignee then has the option log into bitbucket.org to accept the assignment or reject the assignment based on his or her skill-level, time commitment, etc. > > Not all assignments are accepted but for those that are I am that much further down-the-road in the development and bug-fix game. And, the management is kept abreast of the whole affair via email and the commentary left on the Wiki (Confluence in the case of Pebble) and on the repo commits and updates. > > Given the fact that Pebble is in league with one of the software development industries best (and most expensive) SCM systems one would think that something as is suggested in all of the rhetoric above would be more than possible. > > This being said I would like to know if it is possible for Pebble users to register where the Pebble source currently resides? And, if so, what are our options once we have registered? Helpful starters: posting our profiles or backgrounds such that someone (ostensibly you) might decide to assign a bug or two. All of the above may sound like a shot-in-the-dark but so far it has worked well if not OK at my current gig. > > Regards, David. > > Olaf Kock <pebble@...> wrote .. >> Mike Lehmann schrieb: >> > I've reported 5 bugs since August 11th, but none has been fixed yet (OK, one >> > I've added a few minutes ago).
