Dear Niladri

http://www.rakshakfoundation.org/contactus/contactus.htm

I am (NOT) very surprised to find that yours is also another USA funded and
headquartered foundation which dabbles in lobbying in India. As long term
patriotic" Indian members of the group we convey that we are fed up with CIA
agents like Aruna Roy, Arvind Kejriwal and Amir Khan etc lecturing us on our
laws and dubious organisations (like Rakshak) offering them a platform to
spout off.

Dear Sarbajit,

It was wonderful to learn about your views. The only unfortunate thing is that the reality is actually just the opposite.

Some patriotic Indians are even lobbying in US to change THEIR gender biased laws like VAWA. Patriotic Indian activists are also meeting Senators in US to bring changes in THEIR laws.  This is of course besides the normal activities in India, where members meet say Law Commission Chairman or give presentations in Front of any Parliamentary Committee, to bring some positive changes in our society. For your kind information, we generally call this as globalization. I am not sure whether the Americans would soon be fed up with Patriotic Indians in meddling in THEIR laws.

As far as I know RAKSHAK does NOT receive any funding from any govt either in US or India. Activists generally pay from their own pockets to conduct Dharnas, Press Conferences, file RTIs etc to bring changes in our society. Sachin, an Ex IIT Kanpur Alumni, would be able to clarify it much better. Again as far as my knowledge goes most of the members of this (dubious) organization are from premier institutions like IITs. For your kind information, I do NOT hold any position in RAKSHAK, though I am myself also from IIT. For your knowledge, u can go through their Rakshak website to appraise yourself of the different projects RAKSHAK has carried out till date (that also with just donations from false 498a victims)

By the way, what are the criteria (as per you) for a patriotic Indian/RTI Activist, to be termed as a CIA agent? Is it that he/she has to be International Ramon Magsasy Award winner or an International Acclaimed Actor? I am sure (as per you)there must be some other criteria also.

Thanks,

PS : It would be better if u can clarify the group, the criteria (as per you) for an activist to be termed as a "Haram*" as you have already replied in one your previous mails.

And if you can identify some "Haram*" in the photos we would all be even more enlightened. I do not know the names of most of the Activists in the photos. Feel most of them were from JOSH

Dear Niladri,

Nice to find people from Elite background engaging in such serious
stuff and doing some activism on burning issues.  Please keep it up.

Btw the RAKSHAK Foundation's website provides scanty information. The
sites appears to be hastily put together.

Nothing much is given about the persons behind it and it's finances.
And attempts made towards secrecy. Why so ?

Would you care to ask them to be more proactive in their disclosures.
Something in the line of sec. 4(1)(b) of RTI act.

Sincerely,

Sidharth Misra

Dear Niladri,

The issue has been thoroughly discussed on this group in 2007.

You may also ask your USA based Indians to read up the declassified
papers of Edward Landsdale.

I am from BITS Pilani.

Dear Sidharth,

The Rakshak website is currently under up gradation, and would be functional fully soon.

It is extremely interesting to find that people ask for sources of finances. We are basically a group of victims who have a false 498a on us. We have to maintain our jobs and fight our cases. And whatever free time we get is utilized for social services.

I do not know much about Rakshak. But I am an Executive Member of SFF Delhi (Regd.) (www.savefamily.org) and Secretary of Gender Human Rights Society (Regd.) both Non funded NGOs. We managed to get a 80G Status for GHRS. But till date, we are yet to receive even 10rs of funding :-)

So do not ask too much on our funding or we would catch hold of you and then request you to sponsor the Xeroxing charges of one our Press Releases :-)

We seven false 498a victims formed NGOs so as to spread awareness on the misuse of gender biased laws. So in our case, we generally pool our resources (read spend money from our own pockets) and do our social activities. And my experience shows that none of our activities, say any Dharna, got stopped just because of non availability of funds. After all to send a Memo and appear before a Parliamentary Committee hardly costs 100rs.

A Dharna generally cost 7 to 8K.  So one victims, prints banners, another sends Faxes to the Media, another books a tent at Jantar Mantar etc etc. And the false 498a victims come forward voluntarily to sponsor any activity.

But from ur mail, it appears that some NGOs do really get funding from Govt. However we do activism against the Govt notions. So why would the Govt pay our NGO any money?? Moreover we do not have any time to go to Govt and ask money as we are all busy professionals. It is much easier for us to sponsor any activity and pay money from our own pockets, which is cheaper too compared to the monetary value of our time.

And if we manage to get some articles printed in the media or can create even one percent awareness on the misuse of gender biased laws, we would consider it to be a success.

Recently both the President and the Chief Justice acknowledged of the misuse due to our persistent activism.
