Photoshelter just upped the ante a bit by partnering with Tin Eye to index
all the images of its accountholders.  I'm already a Photoshelter
accountholder (tho I have yet to get myself organized) but if I wasn't, that
might be something that would push me off the fence towards Photoshelter.

I see Dylan that you already are using Photoshelter.  however I also
see that you would appear to have the minimum service and would
suggest you have the Photoshelter package that lets you customize
your site so that visitors see your home page and your galleries are
searchable from your own domain.

I have around 6000 to 7000 images on Photoshelter and have been using
their service for several years.  I highly recommend Photoshelter and
I am pleased to see the partnership with Tim Eye.

Yes, I agree, altho my experience thus far is much more limited, and I've
yet to properly customize the site. But it is highly configurable and given
all the options they provide for pricing  and customization, not to mention
they are very good to deal with, I'm very happy with them.

Dylan Garcia asked about PhotoShelter:

We've been using PhotoShelter since July and have about 5000 images on line.
During that brief time we've had 57 users sign up and made about fifteen
sales.  I have been really impressed with many features of the service, and
we're thinking of starting another PS account for other subject areas.  PS
seems to be the result of a great deal of development work and is a product
that is working extremely well for us.  I get one or two calls per day from
the site, and we're currently making a couple of sales per week average.

There are some very small issues -- a lot of buyers REALLY don't want to use
the fully automated fulfillment process and ask for quotes and for invoices
just like in the old days.

One question not yet answered by PS is who is actually making the sale -- is
it PS or is it me?  Who fills out the W9?  Who sends the 1099s (tax forms)?
Ad agencies and other companies want to set up "vendors" before buying
anything from them, and we keep getting asked if PS will be the vendor of
record or if it is me.  Sometimes it is a lot easier to make a sale than to
get paid for it, and the vendor issue is one of the common reasons.

I think we're getting a lot more good sales traffic -- apart from the
tourists and gawkers -- than with our old site, and we seem to be selling a
lot more, too, than before PS.  It's working for us.

Hi
Big Thanks to every one, I will now go from starter to basic, I think photoshelter is expensive but it has a lot of options so i will not outgrow it. Looked at clickpix but all images had to be 300pixels high so this seamed limited to me, and if i go to all the work of uploading images etc, i would not want to have to do it agean next year.
thanks Dylan Garcia
