I was using Pidgin 2.10 (installed when I bought an Elonex OneT)

On 6 December 2009 I could connect and chat quite happily on MSN ... on 7
December I started getting the message "Our protocol is not supported by
the server".

On 8 December, I managed to upgrade to '''Pidgin 2.5.2'''. Firstly, when I
tried to connect, I got message: "Connection error from notification
server: Unable to connect" ... then the message reverted to "Our protocol
is not supported by the server"!

I am not using AVG or any kind of firewall on this netbook. Apart from the
upgrade to Pidgin, nothing has been changed on it since purchase.
Something network-wise or MSN-wise seems to have changed between 6 and 7
December.

I have noticed several tickets closed and the recommended fix is upgrading
to versions above 2.50, but that has not worked in my case.

Comment:

Toggling `Show Offline` is not really something that happens a lot. Menu
shortcuts can be changed easily. Follow [wiki:"Using
Pidgin#HowdoIbindkeystrokestomenuitems" this FAQ entry] to set it to
whatever you want.

Also, if you know who you want to talk to, you don't need to show offline
buddies to start a conversation. The `Buddies->New Instant Message` dialog
(shortcut `Ctrl+M`) will work for any buddy (offline or not) and even
autocompletes, if that helps.

This is a false positive. Pidgin is not generating them; they are
downloaded from your buddies as is. If you have updated Windows to fix the
exploit, then they are not a threat and AVG's message is ignoreable (and
really, warning about something as ubiquitous as a JPEG instead of the
broken software is just silly).

It is too long-winded to go through the menus in order to switch between
off-line buddies being shown and then hidden again (to write a message to
an off-line buddy). There should be a button or at least a shortcut (like
Ctrl+H in Empathy) to do this quickly.

Good Morning,

When using Pidgin v 2.6.4 it appears that my offline buddies are
duplicting every time I close and restart the application. For example.
If I have 4 offline buddies and I close and restart, I will have a
duplicate of each one for a total of eight. If I close and restart again,
I will have 12 - every time I repeat this it grows. I have edited my
blist.xml fiel to remove the dupes without success, have unintalled
without success and have deleted and re-created the blist.xml without
success. I am not running any plug-ins, just the vanilla app and using
only xmpp.

I just upgraded my pidgin version to Pidgin 2.6.4.

I have a proxy Squid Cache: Version 2.7.STABLE3 configured as HTTP proxy
with Simple Authentication (NCSA) which has been working fine for more
than 6 months and no changes in the config for more than 2 months.

The proxy is restarted every day. It is configured fine so that all pidgin
versions including 2.6.3 worked without problem.

After the upgrade to Pidgin 2.6.4 I can not login to any messaging account
accept Gadu-Gadu.

Squid log displays TCP_DENIED/407 for the Msn, Yahoo, Gtalk, Jabber, ICQ
all this accounts fail to log in via the Squid HTTP Proxy.

In the change log for Pidgin 2.6.4 I see "Don't send Proxy-Authorization
headers to HTTP proxy servers until we've received a "407 Proxy
Authentication Required"", can you please let me know if I need to change
something on my squid or there is issue with HTTP authentication of Pidgin
via Squid.

The pidgin accounts config work fine when I revert back to Pidgin ver.
2.6.3.

I guess pidgin either doesn't interpret or sense correctly the replies of
the Squid - TCP_DENIED/407 or can not send the correct authentication
anymore.

Hi,

I'm using Pidgin 2.6.4 on SLED 10 SP3, When I login to Novell groupwise
messenger and a buddy changes his/her status to Busy with a status
message. It displays that the buddy is busy(in red) but the name of the
buddy is replaced by the group name and I need to mention that I have
aliased the buddy name. Not sure if this is happening because of aliasing.
Status message is not displayed.

Make sure that libpurple core knows that a buddy is on the allow list just
after accepting their add request. Previously, this was not a problem, and
would go away at next login, but now that the core does its own client-

blocking, it appears as if newly added buddies can't talk to you.
