google chat/pidgin login issue

To whom this may concern:

I am trying to log into my google chat account using Pidgin. I used to be able to do this and then all of a sudden I am unable to. Below are the parameters I have set up. Could you please let me know where the issue is?

Tab: Basic
Protocol: XMPP
Username: properly filled in
Domain: gmail.com
Resource: Home
Password: Accurate
Remember password: checked

Tab: Advanced
Require SSl/TLS: Not checked
Force old (port 5223) SSL: Not checked
All plaintext...: Not checked
Connect port: 5222
Connect server: Blank
File transfer proxies: proxy.eu.jabber.org
Proxy type: Use global proxy settings

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

You'll need to ask Mxit that. MXit is not supported here, and although
the MXit support people did frequent this list for a short time, they
haven't been seen recently.

The group was probably added successfully, but isn't appearing in the
buddy list because it is empty.

If you go to the "Buddies" menu and enable the "Show->Empty Groups"
checkbox, it should show up.

This is indeed a Pidgin support mechanism, it's a public mailing list
and the people that come and help here are volunteers, some of whom
wrote Pidgin itself.

Well, you could tell us which version you're using, which would help,
and which OS you're running it on.

If you select the saved statuses the a window opens that will allow you
to delect any status that is not in use.

If you don't feel that Pidgin works properly then you can create a bug
ticket by visiting the http://pidgin.im web site and following the
'Development' link from the home page.

Pidgin is a colloborative open source project, there is no company
responsible for it, it is written by people in their spare time and is
free in both the beer and speech senses.

Some distro's have a longer testing cycle before they release new
versions of software. This is an issue I commonly came across with
Debian (they were up to a year behind what was otherwise publicly
available).

Hello,i recently installed ubuntu and pidgin on my new laptop.But after a couple of days i been seen that 2.6.4 is out and i still have 2.6.3.I followed the instructions of the PPA and still i see no updates.Even on the www.pidgim.im website still says Ubuntu 2.6.3 while all the other versions say 2.6.4.I dont know if this is normal,just thought i point it out.

This seems to be the only support mechanism I can find for Pidgin

I'm trying to delete autosaved statuses by doing what it says in the
help guide and hovering overing over the status line and hitting
delete. It doesn't work! Does anyone know a version that works
properly or which company is responsible for this software?

You can't restrict it to people using Pidgin, although it may well be
the case that all your workmates are using Pidgin.

More generally, is there any way that the documentation can be improved
to make it clear that Pidgin is a client, and instant messaging is
provided by unconnected services. I think this issue was also hinted at
in the "documentation starts at G" thread.

There seem to be a number of organisations that insist on the use of
Pidgin, but either fail to provide support for it, or fail to inform
workers from where they should get support. Quicktate (not involved in
this case) appears to be one of those. This tends to compound the
confusion between Pidgin and some, possibly locally operated, instant
messaging service.

I need to send a message to all the users (within my company and office)
that are logged on to Pidgin at a certain time. I would like to let
everyone know something and I figured if there was a way to send a message
to "all" of them that are using Pidgin at that time, it would be very

I believe what she is trying to do is send the same I'm message to everyone on her buddy list that is logged into their I'm account.

I seriously doubt if that's possible

You can't logon to Pidgin, and your buddies certainly cannot logon to
your Pidgin.

Do you mean all the people known to your copy of Pidgin and currently
logged onto a service to which you are currently logged on via that copy
(although not saying that this is actually possible)?

That protocol is just the underlying IM service, so AIM, MSN, Yahoo IM
and so on.

I’ve installed Pidgin, but don’t understand the basic functionality, so I feel like the User Guide and FAQs are starting at “G” instead of “A”. Terms are unfamiliar to me, so when it says things like “user protocol” I don’t know what that means. Is there a “Pidgin for Dummies” here somewhere?

I’ve worked with Yahoo IM successfully for years, but this is like a whole different animal to me and my work is requiring it!

You should probably talk to the Pidgin-Encryption people about this
issue as it is a third party plugin not supported on this list.

It sounds likely that the problem is that he is using a very old
version of the plugin that doesn't work well with the version you're
using.

I have one buddy I get this error on when I try to talk to him.

We are even marked private and we have the right fingerprints.

Why can’t I see him now when it was working up until my windows profile go corrupted?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I ahev the latest version of mandriva but it says i need to update my pidgin tell me how i could do that with RPMDrake? or would i have to do it with the source version,.. could you walk me through it if i need to do it that way?

On my eeepc e900 linux with Xandros (dutch) i have pidgin 2.0.2 ,can i
upgrade to a newer version ?
When i try to login with my QQ account i always received incorrect
pasword,although i'm sure it's the right one ,how to solve the problem ?

For MSN accounts, go to the Accounts menu, select the account you want
to reconfigure, and look for "Set friendly name"

Yes, you will have to register to be able to make comments on the tickets, and it would be helpful if you can provide debug logs and packet capture.

I can't figure out how to reply to the ticket, do I need to register? That's almost exactly my problem.

The transfer is to a machine on the Internet between myself and someone else using Pidgin. Most of the problem is with the Yahoo protocol (most of the time Pidgin AIM to Pidgin AIM transfers work). Now to go grab a debugger for Windows.

It's a problem with the MXit plugin, so perhaps someone from their
organisation can help the OP.

Problems With File Transfer

Generally the only protocol that I try to use the File Transfer feature
is Yahoo (at least lately). Sometimes the transfer works and the file
goes through, most of the time though it will not start. Here lately the
person on the other end is also using Pidgin, although that isn't always
the case (it's always been hit or miss on whether transfer will go
through or not).

No firewall, router properly configured, and files range from a few
bytes to a couple of MB. Is this a bug that's already been submitted?

You're going to need to provide some actual information to get help.
You can't activate *what* account?

If Pidgin is something provided to you by your IT department (as I'm
guessing by your giant multipart email with gratuitous attached
images), you should probably talk to them, not us.
