Pixmap based animation in Gtk+

Hello devel list,

some weeks ago I wrote an email regarding "Animation in Gtk+" to the mailing list. I used the passed time to implement the stated idea. Here is a video of the first results:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=793477820753124601

The implementation so far is more a "proof of concept" and there are still enough problems to solve but I think it can already be a basis for further discussion on this topic. That is why I opened a bug report [1] and published a patch together with a small explanation and a simple test application.

I'd really like to hear some opinions on this approach. Thanks for the help!

Kind regards,
Hagen

I can't believe my eyes! I'm blogging this straight away.

I wonder if you can avoid the composite requirement with Alexander
Larsson's work? Alex?

Anyway, so freakin' great work! Can't wait to see what we come up with
during the hackfest :-)

The offscreen stuff is a bit bitrotted at the moment, but yes,
eventually you'd be able to do this without composite.

There is a new patch out for pixmap based animation. You'll find a more detailed description on bugzilla [1].

I made also a new video [2] so you have a visual feedback of the progress.

Comments and opinions are very welcome!

Kind regards,
Hagen
