 Please Help: Authority Search - Not returning Result. Zebra Index Picks up 4 Authority Records
Hi everyone, I hope I can get a reply soon as it seems this is a very urgent issue and stopping me from going live. Please note the following problem: Simple Explanation: I create a new "Personal Name" authority framework, add only enter "Susan M" in Tab 1, Tag @a --Save
Do rebuild_zebra -a -r <-- For rebuilding Authority Indexes. It says exported 4 records, which is correct. I created 4 Authority Records in Koha. Search Authority in Koha - Drop down [Personal Name]-Contains- Susan <-- Returns Nothing.
----------------------- Biblios works perfectly fine. Only Authorities do not show in Koha. I really did do my best, but I can't seem to solve it on my own. So any help is greatly appreciated.

This is an old bug. Not as a fix, but to do that authorities search work do the following:
Edit AuthoritiesMarc.pm (usually at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/AuthoritiesMarc.pm), search for "Heading-Main" (on koha 3.0.3 is on line 223) and replace with "Heading", same value as 2 lines below ( it looks like '$attr =" \@attr 1=Heading ";'), and voilà! authorities search work.
works for me. bgk
PS: This a "solution" that I find googling around. Perhaps there is no many people that use authorities with koha, or we are doing things very bad, or I don't know how to work out a proper solution.

Hi, Actually that is the the issue in my case. This bug is fixed on my version of Koha, since in the code, I only see "Heading", not "Main Heading". I am really unsure of what to do? For some reason, it is not picking up from the database. The biblios work, but the Authorities don't...why? I don't know.

Hi,
What I did was simply do chmod 777 on those files. The user who owns them is koha.
I don't know how to see if zebrasrv has permissions on file d things, this error does not show anymore for me.
What shows when I do search is the following:
In my koha-zebraqueue-output.file
I see a bunch of DBD::mysql::st execute failed: Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction at /usr/share/koha/bin/ zebraqueue_daemon.pl line 284.

I fixed those permissions issues, they were not the problem. It seems indexing does not happen for some reason.

Hi everyone, I hope I can get a reply soon as it seems this is a very urgent issue and stopping me from going live. Please note the following problem: Simple Explanation: I create a new "Personal Name" authority framework, add only enter "Susan M" in Tab 1, Tag @a --Save
Do rebuild_zebra -a -r <-- For rebuilding Authority Indexes. It says exported 4 records, which is correct. I created 4 Authority Records in Koha. Search Authority in Koha - Drop down [Personal Name]-Contains- Susan <-- Returns Nothing.
----------------------- Biblios works perfectly fine. Only Authorities do not show in Koha. I really did do my best, but I can't seem to solve it on my own. So any help is greatly appreciated.

I suspect that your biblionumber and biblioitemnumber are stored in 090$c and 090$d, which Koha 3 expects by default to be in the 999 $c and $d. To tell Zebra this, go to the directory where you installed the Koha and Zebra configuration files and edit zebradb/marc_defs/marc21/biblios/record.abs. Comment out the following lines melm 999$c Local-Number:n,Local-Number:w,Local-Number:s melm 999$d biblioitemnumber:n,biblioitemnumber:w,biblioitemnumber:s and add melm 090$c Local-Number:n,Local-Number:w,Local-Number:s melm 090$d biblioitemnumber:n,biblioitemnumber:w,biblioitemnumber:s Then restart your Zebra server and try running rebuild_zebra.pl.

I fixed those permissions issues, they were not the problem. It seems indexing does not happen for some reason.

This is an issue of authorities. My biblios export fine and I am able to search them also fine. Authorities are in their own different database right? and they should not be effected by Biblios???
I don't know if I am making any sense..

Good Day Frederic, Kindly tell me how do I disable the Authority? in Koha? Right now, if we try to create a new Marc Record, start from empty record, and go to the tag that have to put a Author Personal Name for example, it GREYS the box, and ONLY a popup window can be used to search for an already existing authority??
Can you tell me how I disable this popup window and simply make Koha understand simple text rather than Authority?? I hope I am making sense. Would you recommend that I re-install to keep with future changes?? Because it took me a long time to setup Koha, since I am a beginner and really worried that it would delay the project from going live even more.
Someone today in IRC mentioned that I am using the old version of idzebra when I should be using idzebra-2.0, so I think tomorrow morning my time i will try that..and keep you guys on the loop. Please do remember me if you come across aything related to this, Thanks alot

Your Koha installation is messed up for whatever reason. I recommend you reinstalling everything. The best installation documentation, and most up-to-date, is INSTALL.debian-lenny. I've seen on IRC that you customized your template. Avoid that if you don't know how to track your modifications with a code version control program like git. Otherwise, you won't be able to upgrade to Koha newer version, which is very important for a software like Koha.
Another option is to disable completely authorities (in Framework), as suggested by Chris. Believe me, if your catalog is small, authority management is a nonsense. We have lot of small libraries using Koha without authorities for the sake of users!

Go to Koha Administration->MARC Framework and select "MARC structure"
for the framework you are using.
There search the tag you have problems with (e.g. 100), select
"subfields", click on "Edit Subfields", select the subfield (usually
"a"), select "display more constraints" and at the bottom you will see
"Other Options" with "Thesaurus: PERSO_NAME". Change that to blank using
the pull-down-menu and you should be happy :-)
You have to do that for every framework and for every field wich might
use authority control (there are quite a few).
Or you can start over installing koha and deselect in the web-installer
authority-control. (I'm not quite sure, but I think the easiest way to
do that consists in dropping your database in mysql and recreating it
manually - but I have never tried that!).

we are adding books to the library, and have got past the books that
have MARC records already available.
which means that we are starting to write our own records (help!!)
the problem is we can't write an author name into it (100a)
i am trying to figure it out, but i am right now without a clue.
can someone
a. talk me through it
