Currently, if you run an old Java 1.4 container like WebLogic 8.1 you have to run Cargo in Java 1.4. Not so in our upcoming release.
Cargo 1.0 allows you to run a container in a different version of Java from what is running Cargo. For example, your build may use JDK5, but it can launch a JDK6 container via the property ${cargo.java.home}. In other words, we are no longer coupled to the JDK of the container we manage.
CARGO-655 is also scheduled for version 1.0. It follows others in the industry, like SpringSource and Sun, removing support for JDK 1.4. That said, CARGO-655 will not discontinue support for launching JDK 1.4 containers. As mentioned above, you can still run JDK 1.4 containers by setting the property cargo.java.home to a valid installation. Cargo does not need to run in the same version of Java as the container it manages.
