Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology at University
of South Carolina
position can start as early as August 15th.

The lab of Prof. Jianjun Hu in the Computer Science Department at University
of South Carolina (USC) is seeking an enthusiastic, highly-motivated
postdoctoral research associate working on protein motif analysis. The
research project will be to computationally discover and analyze all
sequential or structural motifs at the protein levels. We are especially
interested in discovering protein sorting motifs. The postdoc will have the
opportunity to do cutting-edge interdisciplinary work in a close
collaboration with biologists and other bioinformatician. Bioinformatics is
one of the strongest research areas in the department with 5 faculty working
on phylogenetics, protein structure prediction and folding, DNA sequence
analysis and etc

Applicants should have a Ph.D. with strong computing skills (e.g. R, Perl,
C/C++), basic molecular biology background, and strong interests in
bioinformatics. Experience in motif discovery, sequence analysis,
statistical inference, machine learning and data mining is preferred.
Well-suited candidates are likely to have Ph.D. experience in computational
biology, applied math, computer science, or a similar discipline.  The ideal
candidate will be familiar with molecular biology (DNA/protein sequences and
structures), but outstanding applicants who are new to the field will also
be considered. Excellent communication skills and good teamwork spirit are
essential.
