Hello everybody,

Just a reminder that SydPUG is on tomorrow night at 6:30PM, at Fujitsu
Australia in North Sydney.

The presentation at this meeting will be given by PostGIS developer Mark Leslie.

PostGIS is a PostgreSQL spatial extension library that provides full,
standards compliant support for geometric objects. The presentation
will provide a short overview of the history and motivations of PostGIS,
who uses it and why and will delve into the capabilities of the library.

Meet in the foyer of 15 Blue St North Sydney at 6:30pm. The meeting
will be held in the View Room on level 16. The building is next to the
North Sydney train station exit on Blue Street.

It seems that a while back, the SydPUG website was summarily deleted
during a reorganisation of the various PUG websites at postgresql.org.
I'll be correcting this situation shortly, and after that happens, any
presentation materials we have will go up on the new site.

I am doing a bit of research into the availability of commercial support for PostgreSQL / PostGIS in Australia/Queensland.

Hear your pain, this was all done on debian linux. binmode was a gotcha

I've done it with a bytea column like this

Inserting a image into a database

Hi

I wondered if anyone could give me a few lines of sample code on basic,
showing how to insert a file you have on your hard drive, into a data field
in postgres. I'm totally stumped (seems that using the bytea field is the way
to go from reading the doc's.

The Sydney PostgreSQL Users Group will meet on Wednesday, September 3rd,
at 6:30PM, at Fujitsu Australia in North Sydney.

Gavin Sherry will give a talk on data warehousing and business
intelligence: what it is, why it's important and why PostgreSQL users
should be interested in it.

He'll also look at some of the issues he has faced building petabyte
range data warehouses based on PostgreSQL, how they were addressed and
why they might be problems for you very soon.

Meet in the foyer of 15 Blue St North Sydney at 6:30pm. The meeting
will be held in the View Room on level 16. Security restrictions
apply, so you will not be able to go straight up to the room. Please

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to say hello after joining up. Just moved from the
Netherlands to Sydney Australia to work for a company that uses
Postgresql as one of their backends. My own experience has been mostly
Sybase and lately MS SQL Server so I'm relatively new to Postgresql all
though I've been playing around with it for the past few months.

Thanks for the advise. I'll try to provide more complete details if we
can't solve it.

I subscribed and posted there but haven't heard anything back.

In the meantime, we had some progress with a friend I contacted

problem here. In the meantime, I recommend you post on one of the main
postgresql lists with your problem, if you haven't already. Be sure to
include an actual description of the issue, rather than just some
source for a program which exhibits it. Also include exact versions
for every piece of software involved (postgres, odbc driver, etc).

There is a specific postgresql-ODBC list, but there's very little
traffic on it. You might be better off posting on -general...

Due to a lot of other commitments, I haven't had the time to put together a
complete presentation for SydPUG, so there will be no meeting on for
tomorrow night.

There will be a SydPUG meeting next month. I can tentatively say that
the topic will be
an introduction to the Londiste replication system, part of Skype's
Skytools package (see
