Potential UI ChangesHello all,
We are looking at doing a fair amount of UI changes in the near future that will make the Vtiger CRM more usable and a better fit for our needs. Some of these changes could be adapted and made more universal for a larger user base. I wanted to check with the Vtiger community to see if anything that we are looking at doing is of interest to Vtiger as a whole. As the focus of Vtiger 6 includes some UI redesign now might be a good time to see about aligning efforts, so that future work is not duplicated. 1. In our custom modules, and customization of existing modules, we use jQuery and jQueryUI as our JavaScript framework. Datepicker is a jQueryUI widget that we have started to use with some frequency. It has a modern look and feel, and is highly customizable for people that want to develop their own theme. Is there any interested in doing a wholesale replacement of jscalendar and other date selections with Datepicker? If you are unfamiliar with Datepicker, the jQuery demo site can give you an idea of what all it is capable of: http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker/ 2. In the Quote module, when editing a Quote and adding a product, first a blank product is added, then you can select a pop-up window from which you can search and then select a product. This whole process seems to include some extra steps which could be streamlined, and the pop-up window is somewhat awkward. We are looking at dropping the blank product addition and going directly to product selection, which could be moved into a pop-up div instead of a separate window, with more intuitive product selection. 3. With mobile devices becoming more ubiquitous everyday, it seems like a natural step to make the interface a little more mobile device friendly. With adaptive style sheets, and the viewport meta tag, there are changes that can be made to make accessing Vtiger from a mobile device more intuitive. Buttons could be made taller, and cells and rows that contain links, can become links themselves, making the system more usable. If any of the above changes are of interest please let me know so that we can move toward implementation. -Bryan _______________________________________________ http://www.vtiger.com/ |

Re: Potential UI ChangesDo any of these features coincide with the vTiger 6 roadmap? Which I
would love to see. :) _______________________________________________ http://www.vtiger.com/ |

Re: Potential UI ChangesBryan, Adam,
Yes, vtiger 6 will use the jQuery's Datepicker for all date fields. Also, we will be replacing popups with auto-fill text fields. We expect to get mobile friendly themes based on the new UI framework, in 2 to 3 months after the release (we expect to release vtiger 6 in July/August).
We have now put up the vtiger 6 screens on the wiki. I'll send a separate email with the link. thanks, Sreenivas On Thu, May 10, 2012 at 1:58 AM, Adam Heinz <amh@...> wrote: Do any of these features coincide with the vTiger 6 roadmap? We need to do this for one client so that if someone tried to create a new account (when adding in a Contact for example), as they start to type the name, the list of similar Account names already in the system appear for them to choose from. In fact we do not want most users to be able to add a new account at all. Just choose from what is already there. Just FYI, in OpenERP 6.1 they have a very nice implementation of auto-complete with the added options to create, and create/edit from the same drop down: http://twitpic.com/9jcpn1/full I would be really interested to see the work you are planning to do on this - we may not need to develop anything in-house...
