Leaves => VERY nice
Onion  => not so nice (but still reasonable)

Just a thought - if we're going to do this we need to aspire to have it
at least as appealing as the Catalyst & Ruby logos, and I think at least
one of these samples achieves that already.

Thanks :) The Leaves are from the new site design we are trying to
implement into Kwiki at the moment.

... Would be nice if someone magically came back with a cgi-app based
wiki around now :/

I like it, especially the first two ones, as they fit nicely in my website
layouts.

I prefer three leaf design because:

1) the background color(s) looks like metal (titanium is a metal).
2) the colors are overall bright and cheerful, but are not overpowering
and would look good on most pages.
3) it gives the framework an identity without reference to the Perl
logo. Catalyst does the same. There is no need to identify directly with
Perl -- Perl can manage that issue.

The onion samples are very well done and could be donated to the perl
organization perhaps as they are very nice indeed.  Just not the best
for Titanium/CGI App.

Really good work Lyle.  I appreciate this very much.

Regards,
Gordon

Both are beautiful and they both look very professional. Good job indeed!

The onion design would help improve the branding for Perl, something which I
think is needed in web development. Now, whether that's something
CGI::Application should do, that's food for another debate.

Julio

I like all the seedling / leaves logos.

Thanks for putting these together Lyle!

I prefer these to the older camel/gears logo, which has come to feel
generic... so many software projects have used gears for their logos.

Very nice.  Where do I send my contribution?

When I think of CGI::App though, I don't think of onions or leaves... I
think of... well, something fast, zippy, quick, easy-to-assemble.  CGI::Apps
run fast(er than Catalyst in non-mod-Perl environments), and it's easy/fast
to develop with.

I went over to istockphoto.com and typed in "speed", to get some ideas
(i.e., to see when people tag their photos with that word).

Race car?  Cheetah?  Tight swirls/curls/circles?  Something blurred (like it
is moving fast)?
Lines that make it look like you are moving (3-D tunnel or road or
something)?
A rocket blasting through a spider (WWW) web?  (I saw one picture of a
turtle with a rocket strapped to its back.)
Better, a hunk of Titanium blasting through a web.
Wait, the space shuttle... it's built with Titanium isn't it?
Poplar tree (they grow fast) -- hey, are those poplar leaves in those
samples?
Ok, I'm probably having too much fun now and not helping much anymore...

I don't like the over-used "different lighting on the top vs bottom" 3D
effect on some of the bottom samples.

I agree. The proposed logos are very nice. But, I don't get the
connection to leaves. When I think of a "Powered by" logo, I just
think of the phrase "CGI::App" on a background which looks like a
transparency covering a hierarchical org chart (depicting a
framework).

I think that would be simple and convey both Perl (the :: name, or at
least enough to google for it) and what it does (templating,
inheritance, organization).

I like the leaves too.

Particularly the first two logos.

Very organic.

More opinions regarding sizes, search-ability :

Sizes:

Once the logo is chosen I think we should have all three sizes
available.  Different uses of the logo will be well served by having
different sizes available.

Search-ability:

The issue of searching for 'Titanium' was raised and is important.  I
wish we could use that name, since it doesn't include the word "CGI" and
it doesn't include the screen noise "::".  On that basis I think
"CGI-App" is the best text to uses.  Since the CGI-App site is so
findable it can supply the link through to Titanium.

Regards,
Gordon

Sometimes small frameworks are call "seed works". A framework can also be
thought of as the "roots" that your project grows on. The leaves are also small
and simple, like CGI::Application.

The colors and design convey something that is softer and simpler than large
framework which comes across a giant technical impersonal machine.

I agree there's some disconnect between the image of the leaves and the name
"Titanium", but I'm OK with that.

I kind of like the onion logos myself.
