Problem compiling freetype2 with MinGW/MSYS

Hi

When attempting to compile freetype2 with MinGW/MSYS I encounter
problems. I am using a clean download of the freetype source, and an
unadulterated copy of MinGW and MSYS

Andrew@MCARDLE-PC ~/documents/code
$ cd freetype-2.3.11

Andrew@MCARDLE-PC ~/documents/code/freetype-2.3.11
$ ./configure

FreeType build system -- automatic system detection

The following settings are used:

  platform                    unix
  compiler                    cc
  configuration directory     ./builds/unix
  configuration rules         ./builds/unix/unix.mk

If this does not correspond to your system or settings please remove the file
`config.mk' from this directory then read the INSTALL file for help.

Otherwise, simply type `c:/code/mingw/bin/make' again to build the library,
or `c:/code/mingw/bin/make refdoc' to build the API reference (the latter needs
python).

The problem appears to be two fold. Firstly sed is having trouble with
some of the commands, and secondly there is trouble finding libtool.

What am I doing wrong, and how can I correct it?

thanks

Just a guess, but I suggest you use the MSYS sed instead of a native
Windows one (like the MinGW one you seem to be using; I didn't even
know MinGW had its own sed).

Commands to sed often can look like they might be Unix-style pathnames
or Unix-style PATH-like values (if one has good imagination), and MSYS
then converts them to the corresponding Windows form when invoking
non-MSYS programs. (This is the main point of MSYS, and usually it
works nicely. But occasionally it works too well...)

Probably related to the sed issue.

It doesn't.

Which is why MSYS provides it's own distribution of sed.  If you
replace the binaries supplied with MSYS core with native versions then
you are on your own when it comes to problems.

Earnie already explained how to avoid this issue by using the right sed
in the right place, but I'd still be interested in what sed scripts
cause this; at one time we did audit Autoconf and Libtool for scripts
that we figured could be mistaken for path names, I'd like to keep the
source that way (or correct my wrong assumptions about what kind of path
translations may occur).

Can you send me the output of the configure run with
  set -x

added as second line to freetype-2.3.11/builds/unix/configure, gzip'ed
and preferably off-list due to size or to the bug-autoconf list, please?

Thanks,
Ralf
