Problem in defining node set!!!!

Hi all.

I have some points from experiment and I should create a node set for them.

But the problem is finding the exact point in CAE. I mean finding the exact nod
between thousands is really hard.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely yours

Victor

Create a path using a point list (Tools->Path->Create), with one point
for each of your experimental measurement locations (you can probably
cut and paste the list of coordinates from Excel).  Map the variable(s)
of interest to the path, then print and/or plot it.  ABAQUS will take
care of the interpolations.

Dave

Hi
The problem is finding the exact points in cae. Do you have any idea?
Can you describe in more detail.
thanks

Look at the documentation for path plots.  You can specify the exact
coordinates of the points you're interested in -- ABAQUS will perform
the interpolations for you.  You don't need to find the nearest nodes.
Note that I'm talking about a Viewer operation (Tools->Path- >Create),
not a CAE operation.

Dave

Hi

If you have the coordinates of those points, you can open the inp file then make finding by "ctrl+f" and try to fine the coordinates of each node, then you find out the number of nodes which you can define as a node set manually by
*nset, nset=name
numbers of nodes

hope this help

Hi all,
let me explain more: the points from experiment is not exactly on nodes, so I need interpolation between integration points.
The other difficultiy is giving these points as node set or .. in defing a path, because selecting these points from CAE is realy hard and not accurate.
Thanks in advance.

Again, you do NOT need to define nodes, or a node set, in order to
define the points to be used on a path within ABAQUS/Viewer.  You simply
define the coordinates of the points you are interested in.
ABAQUS/Viewer takes care of the interpolation.

Hi
Thanks for your comments.
In fact  I used ABAQUS/Viewer. I defined a new coordinate system near the points and give the pint positions in:
Tool> Path > Create > POINT LIST

But, it says, there is not any result for these points. It seems there is a problem in defining Coordinate system. I could see the coordinate sytem corectly in Viewer in its position, but when I want to position the nodes with respect to this coordinate system it does not work.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
Best Regards
Victor

I believe the coordinates are always interpreted with respect to the
global Cartesian coordinate system.  You'll need to perform the
transformation externally (e.g., in Excel) prior to defining the points
in Viewer.

Dave

Hi
Thanks for your comment Dave.
I should know the exact position of Global Coordinate system to use Excel.

In fact I draw my model in CAE, so  I do not have any idea where is the global coordinate system in my model. Right now I should give (X,Y,Z) of point to define a path, but I do not kow where is the coordinate system(Reference point). Right now when I give the position of nodes by (X,Y.Z), the points are far from my model.

I have mixed up, I will be gratefull if you guide me.

Thank sin advance.
