Problem of lost desktops

I usually run 6 desktops in Gnome under 2008.1, but have somehow managed
to lose all except one; and I can't find any way of re-setting 'multiple
desktops' in MCC.
How do I do this?

(4 under KDE are still present)

Sorry, should have said workspaces.

The problem is somewhat worse than this.
If I right-click on the title bar of a window all the 6 workspaces are
listed and I can send it to workspace 6, for example.
But Gnome-panel shows only 1 workspace, so it's disappeared
irretrievably. Nothing on any other workspace is retrievable.

It should be configurable from the (right-click) preferences for the
"Workspace Switcher" panel applet.

Greg, you've pinpointed the problem - the "Workspace Switcher" panel
applet had got deleted by accident..

Re-installed; all's well again.

Thanks,
