Hello,

I have experienced a problem with the debian installer for Debian/kfreeBSD
The install process is from a mounted ISO file and it is a network install.
I think I have used this build: http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/kfreebsd-i386/20091028-11:20/monolithic/mini.iso

System is 7.2-1-486

It all worked well until it reached "apt-get config" -> "Select and Install software" and then freezed at 1% for a long time and it does nothing. I do not think it will ever reach 2%. The system is still responsive, but seems like nothing is happening - nor disk or network activity.

The system is a Virtual Box image, but a previous image of the mini.iso have worked fine before and I haven't changed anything to the virtual machine, neither I have upgrade it.

hth,

Anton Andreev

I started trying to reproduce this on qemu.

Do you please remember the date? Before 5 October 2009 [0]?

antonandreev@... dixit:

VirtualBox does not emulate the i386 platform proper. It is
barely enough to get Windows® and Linux run, and some other
OSes may or may not work (MirBSD for example gets SIGILL or
even SIGSEGV some time in the installation process). There
is the "VT-x" option, which seems to help some, but makes
trouble for others.

Do not use VirtualBox.

Both versions of qemu in lenny and squeeze have problems.
I switched to VirtualBox too.

I get the same problem.
Perhaps it is in pkgsel?

Hi, Luca

I have posted before in this mailing list the exact image that worked for me: 12.09.2009
Seems like VirtualBox is not causing the problem this time.

Cheers,
Anton

You should switch to VT4 and look at what's displayed there. It is
very likely that this is due to a package installation that's waiting
for some input.

Virtual terminal 4. (Hit ALT-F4, I guess.)

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it
is.  If you don't, it's its.  Then too, it's hers.  It isn't her's.  It
isn't our's either.  It's ours, and likewise yours and theirs.

It says after "pkgsel":
"Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
Initializing package states...
Writing extended state information...
Reading task descriptions..."

and starts doing nothing.
