I just finished installing CentOS 5.4 on a new (well, refurbished old)
laptop, and it comes with OOo 2.3.0. I normally use OOo 3.1.1 on my
desktop and my other, much older (slower) laptop, but for some reason
this one just does not want to be installed right. The first time I
installed OOo 3.1.1, none of the app icons appeared on the office
menu, and when I tried to run the writer, it failed to load. I've
tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and the reinstall can't
understand that the whole package is uninstalled (gone) and only
installs some of the options, which are useless without the body of
the suite.
I installed by untarring the package, su, then cd to the untarred
directory and ran "setup." Everything looked ok, but the installation
was flawed and did not run. I even downloaded a fresh copy (for over
an hour because the doenload kept stopping, and no luck there either.
This is a first - I've never had a problem like this before. I run
the 64-bit version on my desktop and the 32-bit version on my other
laptop, all on CentOS 5.4.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
