I can compile and run gpsdrive. When I run it, I see:

--------------------------------------------------
ccurley@grissom:~/gpsdrive-trunk/build$ /home/ccurley/mapnik/set-mapnik-env gpsdrive &
[2] 17941
ccurley@grissom:~/gpsdrive-trunk/build$ Connection to GPS Daemon on 127.0.0.1:2947 established.
DB: Using waypoints from local user file.
DB: Using street data from Mapnik database.
Read 528 POI-Types from geoinfo.db
Missing '/usr/share/mapnik/world_boundaries' please install mapnik world boundaries, if error occurs!
xsize=816  ysize=743  geometry=[]

(gpsdrive:17944): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_toggle_button_get_active: assertion `GTK_IS_TOGGLE_BUTTON (toggle_button)' failed

(gpsdrive:17944): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_toggle_button_set_active: assertion `GTK_IS_TOGGLE_BUTTON (toggle_button)' failed
map_koord.txt reloaded, read 19 map tiles
/home/ccurley/.gpsdrive/waypoints.db reloaded, read 14 waypoints
--------------------------------------------------

Several things:

* Do I need the call to set-mapnik-env?

* gpsdrive reports "DB: Using street data from Mapnik database." I
  don't see any reference to mapnik in gpsdrive _Map Control, per
  Documentation/README.Mapnik_and_OpenStreetMaps. Not can I get
  gpsdrive to pull in new tiles by moving around in explorer mode.

* gpsdrive reports "Missing '/usr/share/mapnik/world_boundaries'
  please install mapnik world boundaries, if error occurs!". Again,
  there's no such file, nor the directory /usr/share/mapnik. Nor do I
  see any way to set this value in gpsdriverc.

* gpsdrive reports "/home/ccurley/.gpsdrive/waypoints.db reloaded,
  read 14 waypoints" which is odd because I've only put one way point
  into gpsdrive.

Using the pattern from codebrainz.ca I created a directory under my home
called world_boundaries which was massive.  I then made a symbolic link
in /usr/share named mapnik to it.  Like I said 20 years ago in
Slackware.  I still have no mapnik in gpsdrive.
