Proper way to create pop up windows?

I want to bring up a popup window on a right mouse button click on an
icon list. I use the press right mouse button message to bring up the
popup window. For some reason though the mouse input freezes. Hence if I
click outside the menu the menu doesn't vanish. I have to first move
over the menu once or twice before I can close it clicking outside. What
is the proper way to deal with such right mouse button popup menus in fox?
