Proposing help to support Canon ImageClass MF4380dn

Hello,

  I've seen the thread of Tuesday 06 October about "Support for Canon
MF4320d",and I'd like to offer help with a canon imageclass 4380dn in my
possession.

  I've made it buy in August from my girlfriend, that I've converted to
linux: in the paper was a very good printer (HP, my first choice, was
too expensive) since in the canon press the drivers were promised in
september.

  Now they recently updated the ufr drivers for linux to 1.9 and now I
can print correctly via network, it remains the network scanner.

  I've read that you need some infos to include this scanner into sane,
if you point me to some documentation on how to provide sniffing,
tracing, poking in windows (company laptop comes handy) I'll be glad to
help,

  I've a vested interest in the matter...

First, we need to have the usb pid for this model, in order to declare
it in the pixma backend.

The ImageClass devices use multiple versions of the Pixma protocol, so
to go straightforward to the goal, it is necessary to have a Windows
snoop log of the usb protocol it uses.

You can use Snoopypro.exe for that. You can record a log using
SnoopyPro.exe, that you can download from sourceforge.net:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/usbsnoop/

Read instructions on SnoopyPro.exe, then try to record a scan session.

 => Select the device corresponding to the scanner, using its USB
address 04A9:xxxx

There should be ~4 devices holding this address.
The scanner should be the one indicated by: "MF4380 ser"

You can recognize that it's the correct one, if you look at the frame
counter in SnoopyPro, it should increment only when your 4380 is
scanning.
This is important ... in order to avoid having huge log files filled up
with useless data!

Also, choose a **small** area to scan, otherwise, there will be huge
amount of data.

Then, Save As ... the file (in menu), zip the log and send it back to
me.
