I'm just opening server.py it with IDLE annd running it with no arguments. (I understand it would run on localhost using port 8000); I can run the flex client, but obviously I get a connection error.

My PyAMF instalation should be OK as I am running examples conecting flex with python exchanging basic types such as ints, string , booleans and ArrayCollections.

Any Idea or suggestion ?

Nick updated the trunk and you can download the new files by checking out

Hi Javier,

I have (hopefully) sorted the problem. I wasn't using Python2.6 ... but was able to reproduce. There was a bug that caused the host/port args to be swapped and wsgiref would make blow up. Please update to r2953.

Rad, sounds like an adventure!!!

My point was, you should NEVER lose calls; the only time Flash Player loses calls is your frame rate is really high and you have a lot of visuals happening. At the very least, you should be getting failures.

Thanks for letting me know, Jesse. However, I don't see a problem
here. After all, there will be a point in time when the first call or
the first calls have failed. And the next call, then, will be
separate.

Didn't research the blog posts yet - am currently behind a really bad
Internet connection (EDGE in the middle of nowhere in deep Russian
province).

There's complex blog entries on this, but bottom line, all your calls can be "collected" into 1 call. So, while you'll make 5 calls, and get 5 responses back, they may come all at once. You'll see this if you use Charles or ServiceCapture; they'll come back on the same request. While this is sometimes good, it can get confusing why all the latency.

Well, I first need to reproduce the problem. Not that easy. And I need
a workaround in any case. So I consider repeating "connect.call()",
until a response is there, maybe every other second.

Your code looks correct, I blame Google. For ultimate assurance:

1. put a trace in the fail; sometimes you get weird things back that can't be looped over

2. use Charles or a network monitor to watch the response; you WILL get a response back eventually, usually resulting in a timeout (which triggers an IOError), in NetConnection's case, a failed to connect for NetStatus or a fail.

I have a PyAMF gateway running on Google App Engine. However, the SWF
that connects to it sometimes doesn't get a response. That happened
various times with Opera. And when I finally decided to investigate
the problem, I couldn't reproduce it.

So, just to make sure, is the code below - in the document class -
alright? In particular, I wonder whether it's a good idea to
immediately after "connection.connect()" call "connection.call()".

Help with the PyAMF and Jython tutorial

Hello,

First of all, thanks to everyone for putting this proyect up and running !!! It's been a joy using it and was one of the key issues for moving from ruby to python.

I've tried to test the Jython tutorial, and so far everything until actually using the gateway from a Flex app works. I mean the example works with the Python Client and the demo_app.py you provide. But when I try to call the demo_app.py echo function from a Flex app it keeps giving me Channel.Connect.Failed error NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Failed: url: 'http://localhost:8080/pyamf/'

My RemoteObject service in Flex look like this:

Re: Throwing an AMF Error Gracefully

Raising an exception from within a PyAMF service method will cause the fault handler to be called on the flash/flex side. If using AMF3 then that will be an ErrorMessage. If the gateway has debug turned on then the Python stack trace will be included.

You can also use you're own exception classes:

class MyException(Exception):

pass

def cause_error():

raise MyException('some message here')

services = {

'error' : cause_error

}

gw = WSGIGateway(services, expose_request=False)

etc.

Throwing an AMF Error Gracefully

Hi,

PyAMF doesn't support this but we are planning to work on this in a
separate project called Plasma [1]. Actually the idea is to completely
move the Flex specific code out of PyAMF into Plasma by the time we
release 1.0. Any help is welcome! :)

There's some more general information about the Producer/Consumer stuff on
this wiki page [2].

It seems nice to register PyAMF classes in the way similar to client side:

@RemoteClass(alias="model.MyClass")
class MyClass:
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        self.a = args[0]
        self.b = args[1]

It can be achieved with the help of Python 2.6 Class Decorators feature:

class RemoteClass(object):

    def __init__(self, alias):
        self.alias = alias

    def __call__(self, klass):
        pyamf.register_class(klass, self.alias)
        return klass

problem executing server.py in "shared-object" example

I am trying to follow the example programs for pyAMF but I get an error when trying to run the server.py module in the "shared object" example:

invalid syntax in line 56:

def app(environ, start_response):

I have tried a couple of identing things but without success (I am not a pro in python unfortunately :-)
