Question regarding X10 versus HS485 (ELV) based systems

Hi there,

I am new her @ Misterhouse and I am in a kind of evaluation phase for the Homeautomation.

Diging around in the web I figured out that I have to choose between a Bus-based (extra wiring) system or non-bus system.

X10 is non-bus-based and have a couple of disadvantages. For example the interference with motors, monitors or neon lights or energy saving bulbs.

In the MH fourm Thorsten Weiss wrote a interface for the HS485 based system from the german ELV distributor.

For me the question is - do I take the effort to add some more wires in my old house and it's tight cable pipes? We use a lot of neon light and energy saving bulbs - that makes me nervous about X10.

Prices is equal for both in switzerland.

Who uses the ELV HS485 successfully togehter with MH?

Linux and open source are "prerequisits" for my home automation project. And maybe MH is the best way to learn finaly perl :-) .

Who want's to share infos and experiences with me?

Regards,

Axel

Hi Axel,

i've written the HS485 driver for MH.

you can find the perl modules here klick

Actually sending commands is working, receiving works also - but the state in MH would not actualizied.

Its a little beta ...The HS485 protocol is tricky...

Regards thorsten.
