Questions regarding setting up file sharing.I¹m new to running MacOS X (v10.5.8) Server and I have a few questions about
File Sharing setup. First here is what I want to achieve: 1) I have three users, each with a machine and their own standard user¹ account. 2) I would like to create a file share as follows: 3) On the server, each user has his own account. 4) I¹d like the users to access a share structured as follows: /Shared Items/Common (accessed by only my three users who can can old r¹) /Common/Lib (accessed by only my three users who can rwx¹ any folder/file starting at this root) /Common/Bus ( same as for lib) Questions: 1. On the server, who owns the folders and files that are put into Common and its sub directories? 2. If the owner is different from any of my user account names do I create a new group¹ on the server that this owner¹ and my on-server user accounts all belong to, and thus allow my users to access the files through their shared group permission? Thanks, Jay _______________________________________________ MacOSX-admin mailing list MacOSX-admin@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-admin |

You could. A far better method is to use ACLs. -d ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dan Shoop Computer Scientist shoop@...
