Welcome to the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert for November 7, 2009, sponsored by the Audubon Society of Central Arkansas (ASCA).  ASCA meets at 7:00pm the second Thursday of each month.  This month, the meeting will be at the Terry Library, located at on the corner of Napa Valley and Hinson Road in Little Rock.  Check the www.ascabird.org website for details on upcoming meetings and field trips.

From around the state recent sightings are:

At Boyd Point Wastewater Treatment Facility in Pine Bluff Franklin's Gulls are present in the mornings.  Eared Grebe, Horned Grebe, and American Avocet have also been seen recently at the facility.  Vincent Miles, manager of Boyd Point Wastewater Facility has requested that birders wanting to bird the facility on Saturday (open 8:00 to 12:00) to please call ahead to let them know to expect you.  Birders are welcome, but for security reasons they need to know who to expect.  Please respect their request and enjoy this unique birding facility.  Boyd Point Wastewater Facility Phone:  870-535-0821
Late Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds are still being seen across the state, primarily females and juveniles.
Common Loons are reported back at the Lake Maumelle Spillway.
A probable GLAUCOUS GULL was seen on Millwood Lake seen from Beard's Bluff Overlook.  Though too far away to confirm a bi-colored bill, it is a large gull with all white primaries and tail. The ROCK WREN is still present at the dam.
Two Laughing Gulls were below the dam at Lake Dardanelle. One was a winter plumaged adult and the other a first winter bird.

Thanks for calling the Arkansas Rare Bird Alert.  Your contributions make the Rare Bird Alert possible.  If you would like to leave a message, please wait for the chirp.  Good Birding!
